I was needing a new gasket for it and I went up to the store and they didnt have anything like it and they looked in the parts book and the closest gasket that looked like it was out of a mercury. Then he pulled out a whole new cylinder and it looked nothing like mine.

It could be that his replacement M/C is very well different than what you have. As to the gasket, have you looked at the Help Parts displays at O'Reilly's/AutoZone/Advance? Those parts displays have lots of little (so to speak) parts that you and others need for the little (so to speak) jobs that come up. NAPA should be able to find one in their myriad of parts books. If nothing else, what about a GM dealer? Just because these trucks aren't new, doesn't mean that they don't have/can't get a lot of the little parts that are still relevant, even today.

I agree with ChevLoRay on the "Help" section. Before I swapped to discs I was able to find a gasket for my original master this way.

Looks like original m/c to me- bendix type. As others have said check out the help section that is a pretty common m/c setup and there should be one that matches it in that section. You have to be careful with advance and others like them, the counter people have an adversion to using a parts book instead of the computer.

As to your mastercylinder. It looks like a stock non power master cylinder. I bet they are trying to give you one that has two locking rings and is a little bit larger right? If so you should be fine. Some say you cant swap them for each other. But I have seen both mounted oposite. My green and white had one like you got on it when I got it, and it was factory power brakes. I replaced it when I rebuilt the brakes with a reman one that was the larger, double latched one. That is the correct and original one for my power brake truck. So dont be to concerned with the shape of the replacement. As there are alot of them that interchange.

Just when you get the new one make sure the back is similar and that the hole in the middle of the piston is the same shape and depth. Also make sure the outlets are the same size and in the same location. Good luck.

The one that came with mine looked different, but I changed it out and now it looks like yours.
Has mentioned that you should remove your flex fan?
