pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Just went by and paid for the 65' I just bought. Got it off an old lady who told me a little history on the truck. It was a milk truck for Hiland Dairy back in the day. Was converted to a flat bed for putting up hay.
Has a 283 v-8 with split 2speed rear axle. Only one of the rear axles is driving. The other is just a trailing. Don't know what I'm going to do with it just yet, but I just couldn't help myself!! Has an engine driven air compressor and retro-fitted air brakes and horn. I'm going out tommorow to get it running and bring it back home. The p.o. said it was running about 2 years ago. Plan on priming the oil system, fresh gas and lines to a reserve tank. New plugs and a new battery. I have a HEI distributor laying around with some fresh spark plugs. Crossing my fingers... I'm not sure about the air brakes though. Any other suggestions to getting it back to the house? I have 5-7 miles to go...

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Cool truck. On one that old, it probably doesn't have spring brakes. as long as the compressor works and you don't have any major leaks the brakes should work. Just go slow until you can check all the lines, If you loose air you will have no brakes. The hand brake in the floor will stop it eventually but I wouldn't count on it too much.

The more I think of it, I would love to make it a project hauler. The cab is in really good shape for the area. I think the home-made rack over the cab saved it from the rain! I'll update you guys tommmorw. Hopefully I will have pics of it back at my house!!

Very very cool! Isn't it air over hydraulic brake set up on that one?

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Your probably right if it doesn't have brake chambers. Sorry if I told you wrong daveodom. That ones a lot before my time. I do remember now working on a 69 GMC with air over hydraulic. I think it had dual wheel cylinders and was a PITA to get bled out.

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Well here we go.. I got the truck running today. Spent about 5 to 6 hours on it. Did a field carb clean, swapped out the distributor, fresh gas, ran some new wires, checked over the air lines, etc... fired up and ran pretty well. The needle and seat in the carb is done. Had to run a gravity feed set-up to keep the thing from flooding out. Got it out of the tree line and into the field. Tommorow will be the big move. As I was tearing out of the trees I let out a big blast on the air horn. I felt like a real big rig driver!! The air brakes seem to work decent. Plan on taking farm roads back to the house real slow. Some pics:

Looks like an IV....
I think you should scrap that over the cab deal and make a nice Car Hauler out of it.

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Yea, as soon as I get it home tommorow I'm cutting that goofy rack over the cab off! It does make a good place to hang my fuel tank though I keep thinking of how cool it would be with the tadum axles in the back and dropped down a little with a roll back flat bed on it Wish me luck on getting it back to the house....

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
First off, good score! I'd love to see some pics of the brake setup once you get the chance. I wouldn't worry about driving it home. No brakes just make for a little more fun.

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Well guys, the old girl didn't want to come home. I got out on the road and everything seemed good, then a huge piece of the pass. front tire came off! the remaining piece started to beat on the fender... The old truck had NO brakes at all. I turned around and will have to get a flat bed out there. It was still fun to get it running a drive it around alittle in the field though.

Re: pics of the 65' c60 I just bought
Get a flat bed out there. Whats bigger than that thing? Holly Crap its HUGE.
I really dig the platform diving board off the top of the cab. You could live large with that thing as a tail gate party truck. |

That looks sweet. Just stick a 572 under the hood and use it to haul your vehicles.
