garage door help again

OK, today I was outside our house we live in and all the sudden the garage door on my rental house goes up, (its 3 houses down). No one is there right now. So I go down there and the door will not close or open with the switch on the wall. The motion light comes on but will not make a sound or do anything, any ideas on what happened or what to do. I'm showing it to a guy to buy Sun so I'd like to get it working if possible. Thanks for your help, Randy

Re: garage door help again

Will it open with the remote?
I have a "lock" feature on mine and it won't work if it's "locked"
As far as it going up on it's own, sounds like somebody has a remote set to the same code.
After you figure it out, change the dip switches on your remote and receiver.
.
.
Dip switch, that's just fun to say. Try it!

No it won't go up with remote, I never got the remote working on it, its been installed 6 years been using the switch on the wall, I never had any luck getting the remote to work so I never messed with it. It won't do anything with the switch on the wall. Thanks Randy

Re: garage door help again

i canged the dips on mine and that took care of it opening for no reason. as far as the buton, I would check the wiring of the button. take the button loose and cross the wires if it works change the button. simple doorbell button will work.

Re: garage door help again

I'll check the switch, its a door bell switch thats on it. Yes the circuit breaker is on the motion light comes on the opener when I walked in the garage, so it has power.
Thanks Randy

If all the above does not work. I will do an exorcism of the house. I will bring my own Holy Water.

Re: garage door help again

Sorry Andrew, no shop in the plans, I redid the inside of my garage and made it a workout/play/rec room. Wife thinks she wants convertible so there goes some of the money, some of it is going for some siding and doors on the OLD blacksmith shop where I park my trucks and where my parts are, I'm sure she'll have something else she wants Thanks Randy

Re: garage door help again

Sorry I missed this post till now.. congrats on selling the house,, if it happens again, and its a chain driver opening, look above the unit, usually there is a switch up there that is triggered when the door is opened and reverses the motor to lower it next time. usually looks like astandard toggle switch, mine did the same thing several times, till I adusted the chair and replaced some of the rollers. it would not move until I relased the tension, and flipped the switch manually.
