Cowl induction hood ?....

Hey guys, I will be purchaseing a cowl induction hood for my 66 within the next two months. So I've been doing some looking around and it seems their fairly hard to come by. I've checked Ebay and other similar sites and there's nothing there. I have found one company who does make and sell fiberglass hoods and I guess their prices are decent enough. But I have nothing else to compare it to. So my question is, do you know of any good places to buy a cowl inducted hood for my 66? If so could you please send me any info on it?

This site here (UNLIMITED PRODUCTS) is one I have found so far. They do have a great selection of combonations of hoods. I just want to know where else I can go to compare products and prices. So any info you may have will help greatly. Also, I'm ok with the idea of a glass hood but would preferr steel.

I would love to make my own. I'm not afraid of at least giving it a shot. But my problem with that is that I don't really have all the proper tools to get it done. I've been trying to get a welder and a torch set but I just never seem to have the funds. That and all the work I do to my truck is done out in my back yard as I don't have a garage or anything. And thats really not so bad but usually I never have time to comlete a project like that all at once. Normally I end up haveing to set it aside for a short while.

My experience with unlimited products was a bad one. I ordered a cowl induction hood from them for a chevy malibu and the fit and finish was awful. Took almost 2 months to get it too. Jeremy

Really? Did they, or would they have worked with you to make it right? I ask because so far I have only been introduced to one other company and they are a lot more expensive. So I'm still leaning more toward getting one from UNLIMITED.

kyle4381 has one on his truck. I cant remember who made it. I think it took a lot of work to get it straight, and it still doesnt fit quite right. I would highly recommend sticking with steel or find someone to make one for you, if possible.

Diggin' that hood. Might have to try that in the future on a spare hood.

JD- I also bought a Camaro cowl hood from Unlimited several years ago. Same reason you're saying-they were much cheaper than anyone else and I had spent all of my budget on building the motor and needed the hood clearance.

Anyway, the fit was horrible. I worked with that hood quite a bit and was never happy with it. I wouldn't recommend buying from them. Just my $.02. Good luck!!

Well, it seem no one really has anything good to say about the quality of UNLIMITED PRODUCTION parts. I guess it's a good thing. Other wise I would not have had any idea as I have never ordered anything from them. Which is exactly the reason for this thread. I'm hopeing to find other retail/manufactor companies that I can compare to. I'm kind of on a buget doing this and there are some other things on my truck that I'd really like to get done. So I can only alow myself to only spen so much on one part.

I would like to thank everyone on all their feedback on this subject so far. It really is helping me to look at all my options and decide how I might go about completeing what's on my project list.

JD, just my 2 cents, but if your keeping the six, skip the hood and get you a cool intake and header for it.

Very bad evperience with them! I paid $600 shipping included for sorry @$$ rough hood! It took 3 months to get it; and I have to drive to charlotte to pick the dag gum thing up. Called customer service and got the double talking run around! I will take pictures of the underneath to show you! The top looked like some started sanding on it, and sprayed light gray primer on it. Son of biscuit eaters! Go to US Body Source! Thiers are gel coat and made right!

Actually I have recently aquired a numbers matching built 327ci. I do really like having my 292 in it. But the more I think about it the more I'd rather have a V8. Besides, my goal was to give it a retro/mod restoration. So having the original or numbers matching 327 would be a good thing. I badly regret getting rid of the original 327 that came with this truck. I know the hood can look somewhat out of place on a retro/mod build. But I just really like the look. And if for some reason I do keep the I6 in it I won't be putting a cowl inducted hood on it.

Yes, I would like to see pics of the problem areas of these hoods from Unlimited if you have any. Although I have an idea I'm having a hard time imagining how bad these really are.

I like the look of the stock hood much better. I think you would be money ahead to stay focused on the items that the project needs. JM2 cents.

Good idea! Like 283's and 327's! Rev like crazy! Go with the hood if ya can afford it. Is a lot of money tough. I don't have a huffer or a tunnel ram in my pickup now.

You know, I really have given that some thought. It sure gets plenty of cool air that way. One problem I have with that is that my truck is never garaged. It sits outside exposed to any and all wheather conditions. But my engine bay is nice and clean. I won't drop that 327 in unless it's cleaned up real good and looking nice.

just curious what you mean by numbers matching 327?
that 327 has the wrong heads on it to be correct for your truck.....
