Re: alternator belt help!
Unless your adjustment is slipping, you have a bad belt.
I'm a huge fan of Gates brand or Dayco Top Cog belts myself. They never stretch for me after I put them on.

Re: alternator belt help!
Well, tight or not, is the adjustment slipping ? Mark it someway and see if it moves over time. Is the bracket cracked ?

Re: alternator belt help!
One thing I see all the time is people who think just because a belt is still together and isn't cracked that it is good.A V bely runs on the V.If it's in the bottom of the pulley tightening it will only help for a short time.
\V/ the sides should contact and be slightly pulled down into the V of the pulley. If the belt goes all the way to the bottom of the pulley it is either the wrong width belt or it's worn out.Unless you have deep groove pulleys the belt should be even with the outer diameter of the pulley or just slightly below. One way of telling if the belt is bad is if the V is glazed. The other side of this is that a belt that is overtightened will place undue stress on the bearings supporting the pulleys.
