need help with heads
My '71 has a 350 2bl. from a 78-80 model passenger car. it has 1970126 heads & from what i understand they low performance , 76cc,1.72 int. valve heads. i think the stock compression is 8.0 or 8.5 . what i want to do is raise my compreesion up to 9.5-10.0. i found a set of heads for $400.00 with 65cc chambers & 2.02 & 1.60 valves with a 3 angle valve job. will these heads give me the compression i want.?other specs of the engine will be as follows, performer intake, 600 edelbrock, 279 comp cam thumpr, 1&5/8 headers & 2 and 1/2 exhuast. Thanks

Re: need help with heads
The heads won't give you the compression. You need to swap your pistons out.

Re: need help with heads
I think a .100 dome piston would put you in that compression range with those heads. You can cut the heads down a little to gain a better gasket mating surface while raising the compression slightly.

Re: need help with heads
that should get you close. You might want to look at a good used set of vortec heads. the standard 350 versions have 64ccs but you would need a vortec intake. I think the 305 versions have smaller chambers.

Re: need help with heads
Patriot was doing a special on their Vortec heads. They are a Patriot casting which allows you to run both a standard intake or Vortec as well as either perimiter or center bolt valve covers. For the money, they are a great head IMO..
