body work
all the shops around here just want to do insurance work, i dont blame them, ive had 8 shops say they will come look at the 68 and none have showed up. I got most of the rough work done, cut out rust, weld in new metal, stuff like that. Does any one know of a place around missouri that is willing to do custom body work? im venting because untill i get that done i cant do any thing to my truck, been waiting for over a year for some one to do the work! ok theres my sad story, im done whining now!!!

I just reread your post. If you could drive it around to get estimates, I think you would have much better luck finding someone to work on your truck.........

My advice is learn to paint. I went thru this on the last car I had painted. Every bodyshop was just interested in fixing dents for insurence. I wound up paying $1800 to get a 71 firebird painted and they didn't do that great of a job. This was in 86 and that was a lot of money. I vowed I would never pay someone to paint my stuff again. I read every book on painting I could find. I got an old car and starting painting. Buyiny a good compressor, all the tools I needed for a basic paintjob, and the paint still came in cheaper than that paintjob cost. So I quess all the paintjobs since then were basicly free.

Better look at the legal aspect of spraying paint in a neighborhood if you don't have a place to paint.
You might be able to rent a booth from someone, but might be a long shot....... |

dont really have a budget, and the truck is in a million peices so i cant drive it. I had pics of my frame but iphoto lost them so i cant post. The painting part isnt bad, i dont have alot of time to work on the truck since im working 12 hour days nor do i have the experience to get it as straight as i would like. Im not in a big hurry to get it done i just want someone to start on it so it will get done.

Could try the Thrifty Nickle or a news paper ad in a local paper..There used to be a club in South County, St. Louis that done restoration work mainly on 55-57 Chevy cars..place a ad or two you may get a response and don't forget to look at their work..

I live close to K.C. and do my own body work. I mostly do custom work. Mostly basic stuff. If you're close i can look at it. I checked around here and most places won't do that kind of work because the cost of doing old restos or custom work usually scares the person off. email if interested, cause i don't get on here much.
