Starter Problem
I just put a used 350 in my truck this weekend. The problem i have is the motor runs fine when cruising but if i nail it from a stand still my starter makes a grinding noise on the flexplate. What is causing this problem.

Re: Starter Problem
Skeet, pull the starter and look at the bendix (clutch) try to move it with light force. If it moves replace the starter. If it is pertty tight starter probably needs to be shimmed. Make sure nothing on the starter is cracked\broken or loose. With the cost of a rebuilt at NAPA up here $18, just slam a new one in. The warantee is 3 years ta boot. jim

The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose. |

Re: Starter Problem
You said the starter is making noise when you floorboard it from a standing start? Does it grind when you're starting the truck?

Re: Starter Problem
When i start it. It starts right up. durning normal driving i have know problems but when i nail it. It sounds like the flexplate is hitting the starter.

Re: Starter Problem
Wanted to throw in my knowledge, but my dad has a 1992 F-150 and was doing the same thing, romp on the throttle and it sounded like the starter was engaging... well come to find out(after the lengthy time spent dropping the transmission) the fly wheel was bent off center almost a full 1/2 inch from one side to the other, bought a new one for $50 and it fixed the problem. Unfortunately I do NOT know why it happened, or what causes such a thing unless it just got REALLY hot, but haven't had a problem again in over 2000 miles. Just thought I would throw that at ya.
