Finally got my new old truck! ...the new guy
Picked it up last night and am evaluating things I need to do.. It's a 76 C10 1/2ton long stepside w/factory AC, power steering, power brakes(disc front). Has a 350ci .40 over, Holley Contender intake & Holley 750cfm type 4160 carb, 234/244 duration 488/.510 lift cam, double hump heads w/2.02 & 1.6 valves, screw in studs, 1.6 roller rockers, PJ gear drive, HiVol oil pump, 8 qt oil pan, MSD 6AL ignition. The tranny is a th350 w/2800-3000 stall. 12 bolt rear, Eaton posi, Richmond 4.10's. Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust but no headers, still has logs for some stupid reason.
Got some questions for you guys if you don't mind.. Last edited by maxreps; 02-02-2009 at 07:40 PM. |

Great color!!!!!! I had a 75 shorty with a 454 that was about the same color.. Put Forest service decals on the doors and bed and had a blast smoking mustang GTs with it... Nice truck!!! Have fun with it.

Re: Finally got my new old truck! ...the new guy
here's a little better side pic..
I was looking in the engine bay and underneath today, it doesn't look like headers will fit because of the frame rails and starter on the passenger side. But I can't imagine that headers couldn't be put on one of these unless there's something unusual with my engine mounts or something. The engine is a 76 4 bolt main block... |

Install Chevelle headers. I have 3/4 length headers on my truck. No problems. The starter is close but I'm okay with it.
Nice truck. I would drop the stall if you want to make it a daily driver. |

Re: Finally got my new old truck! ...the new guy
oh yeah, one of my questions is.. for the engine/tranny details I listed above I believe it's "over carbed" since it has a 750 on it. It is running rich, the plugs are sooty but I could change jets however if a 600cfm carb would be better then I need to switch it out instead of using a bandaid. Bigger isn't always better just like exhaust diameter. What do you guys think?

Nice unique truck you have there, I like the look of the rallies but you gotta admit some nice cragars or TQ's would make it look sweeeeeet.

Re: Finally got my new old truck! ...the new guy
Mine is also a 350.
I have cheapo headers on mine from advance auto. I believe they were for a chevelle, but I don't know that for sure. They're pretty close to the starter, but I wrapped the headers down there and haven't had a problem at all. I have a Edelbrock Performer 600 carb on mine and couldn't be happier. I recommend getting their fuel line and filter if you decide to go with that one, though. If you use a plain old fuel line, it will interfere with almost any air cleaner. Welcome to the board. Pyrotechnic is right, you don't see many long steps around, and I don't know of anyone on the board with one in the USA. Looks like yours is pretty sweet.

Re: Finally got my new old truck! ...the new guy
I also have a holley 750 on my 350. Mine was running very rich when I put it on the truck and I ended up jetting it down 5-6 sizes before it would run properly. I am going to switch to a vacuum secondary carb though. The mechanical secondaries i have give it way too much air when you stomp on it at low rpm

Re: Finally got my new old truck! ...the new guy
Thanks for all the kind words guys.. I didn't even know it was a long stepside until I got there to see it. I just assumed it was a short but it measures a full 8' internal length. I have never really liked anything green either but it's different and kinda reminds me of John Deere green a little bit. I have got to lean out this carb unless I drop back to a 600-650cfm and I also have to correct a "hack job" on the lowering of it. They heated the front coils and when doing the rear flip they removed several leaves.

Nice truck, I like the color too. It doesn't really look like a long bed in the pic.
Post that in the long bed pics too. |
