well I'm putting my truck back together and it seems like I need almost 3/8 of shims in front cab mounts to get the fender/door gap nice.Is this common?I could have cut down the rad support bushings to bring it down but I went with the shims I have all new bushings

I use large washers for shims.

I have tried to reduce the radiator support bushings but what I have found is that you almost have to go with no supports at the radiator in order to get the results equivalent to 1/4" shims under the body.

I have not seen any problems from shimming under the body.

thanks for the replies-I have a extra bushing and I will cut that down and use it as a shim instead of the shims I have

Just some info here.The radiator core mounts are different from a 67-68 to 69-72.If you bought a complete cab mount kit from a vendor,it most likely has 69-72 core support mounts/bushings which IIRC are taller than the 67-68 ones.This can cause alignment problems with the front fender/cab.
I haven't done one but have been there when a vendor discussed this with a customer.

there should also be a square washer/plate that goes on top the bushing. i dont see it in that pic...

I had the same problem when I did my '69 2x4. I wasn't sure if it was the aftermarket radiator support or the mounts, but I had to shim the cab up to get the fender to door gap right. I couldn't understand it, because the original radiator support was rotted and had no mounts in it, and the fender to door gaps were fine. I thought maybe the mounts on the radiator support were too low or something.

I have a 72 but am using a 67-68 front clip, am I going to have similar problem?

You probably need to use the 67-68 core support mounts is the only thing I can think of.IIRC the later bushings are taller but it could be the other way around.
