Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
this is the truck that i was talking about in the general forums that has the brown recluses. it was last registered and driven in 94. the only major rust issues i could find is the usual rocker and cab corner rust, although, its pretty bad on the passenger side.

Looks like a decent little project. Best of luck with the rebuild and the spiders!

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
heres some more. everything other than the cab corners and rocker panels is surface rust. for around my area this is an above average truck to find. except for the spiders, lol.

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
Man... that was probably a sweet looking truck back in it's day.
Does the dash pad have cracks in it? It looks to be pretty solid.

Spiders?
I don't see no steenkin' spiders. Have fun gettin' it up and running. I know my project sure has been.

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
to tell you the truth, idk about the dash pad, i don't think it does have any cracks. i haven't really been in it that much since we found the spiders. i was sitting in it when we found em, let's just say, that was the farthest i've ever jumped from a sitting position!

Brown Recluse's are worse than rust in my book.
MAN I HATE SPIDERS, I had bad dreams about spiders last night on account of your other post.

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
Got bit by a brown recluse (for real) in 1985, & darn-near died (I was bit on the back of my neck) - little b*st*rd was crawling on my shirt collar, I guess. Didn't know it 'til the next day, & man was I sick !!!
I got to be somewhat of an unwilling expert on them. They are really-bad SOB's. The flesh rots, & you either get better, or something ends up getting amputated. Being bitten on my neck, guess I'm lucky I healed up; not so sure my wife would agree sometimes .............. If the recluse spiders are in there, which wouldn't surprise me, BE CAREFUL !!! Give everything a good spray-down with "diazanon" type bug-spider spray. It doesn't damage anything & when it dries & they later crawl over where you sprayed, it still gets them, & it lasts for weeks & weeks. You can re-treat as needed. Here's a photo of one of the little spiders (about the size of a dime, legs & all) & a healing-bite on someone's thumb (gross !!!). Last edited by 68shortstep; 02-04-2009 at 09:13 PM. |

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
Ew.
I'm not sure we needed that picture, man. Well, maybe we did so we can be appropriately more cautious. Had a girlfriend once who got bit on a knuckle, kind of like the guy in that picture. She ended up having a skin graft on the spot before it was all over with.

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
I had a cousin that put her jeans on and got bit on the back of the thigh, the damned thing was in her jeans. She had to have flesh removed and skin grafts, not nice. As said above, be careful. I use bug bombs several times a year and spray also with good results.

Re: Pics of the Brown Recluse '69 SWB!
Critters that slither and crawl make working on old cars fun.
Two good stories that has happened to me. A few years ago I was helping a friend pick up a tailgate at a junk yard. We noticed it felt a little heavy, turned out to be the home of several thousand Fire ants. I was on my back working on an old car and saw something move next to me. About the time I figured out it was a snake, it started to make a loud rattle noise. Turned out to be a hog nose snake (harmless). I still ended up splitting my head open and nearly giving myself a concussion. I also had a cousin that put his underwear on and got bit by a Fiddleback on his n*ts. He walked kind of funny for a while. |
