Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
I have decided to put a smog pump on my truck so I won’t be needing these. These have been sandblasted and painted in POR-15 manifold gray. Instructions say they will lighten up after they are cured. They are in great shape and are what I believe to be show quality, but they are 37 years old and have some pits and nicks as expected.
They have the correct part #’s and 72 date codes and came off a 72 ¾ ton if the matters to anybody but me. I would be willing to do some trading for a smog pump system if somebody has one, otherwise $250 +shipping

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
I didn't think that the big blocks came under regulation for SMOG systems in '72. Is that a CA standard?
Meticulous restoration, very nice!

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
Jason,
I have the correct pump with diverter valve and pulley, the upper support bracket for A/C & Smog and I believe I have the lower bracket as well (I will verify what I have at the lake). The toughest parts to find are the correct steel manifold tubes. I have a near perfect set that could be used as models to have one of the Corvette Smog restrorers duplicate. I also have dozens of photos of installed systems on 72' 1/2 ton big block that I found helpful. Dan Tippmann |

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
Breeh,
My understanding is that ALL 1972 1/2 ton big block trucks came with smog systems. Also the 402 in the 1/2 ton trucks was not available for sale in California. Dan Tippmann |

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
My 3/4 ton 402 BB suburban is bone stock original, and it has smog pump and components on it. I even got the original dealership smog pump brochure in the glove box so I really believe that it is original to that truck. So I know that at least some of the 3/4 ton BB burbs came with smog equipment.

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
The 1972 New Product Information/Preliminary Shop Manual that states, "Air Injection Reactor Systems are released as applicable for all passenger vehicles, all 10-series trucks, the C-K20 Suburban, all G10-20 Series and G-30 Sportvans. In the Engine section there is verification that the only 402 powered trucks allowed for sale in California were C20-30 trucks (not suburbans), and motor-homes.

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
Interesting. So, just the C/20 with BB did not come with the AIR system. That explains my shallow knowledge about it. I have only ever seen the C/20 big blocks. Thanks for the learning. Sorry for hijacking your thread sameyrasmea72.

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
I noticed the flanges are connected on these manifolds. I didn't think that happened until later. My original 71 manifolds are not connected. The flanges (or ears) for each cylinder are separate. Is this something that started in 72?

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
Connected are later units all early manifolds were seperated and created the problems you are having now. The repops are also connected as these pictured are.

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
I have 7-8 of the ones with the connected ears. As far as I can remember they are all 72. I have one that is not connected and I looked it up and it showed in the book to be a 68-69.

I think 70-71 were connected too, but not positive. The only way to tell if yours are really the original 71's is to look on the back side for the date code.

Re: Non smog BB Exhaust manifolds
Updated chassis ? Hmmm, No pics, but picture this.... No engine/trans and covered in about an inch of dust. It just bugged me to death to have the incorrect engine with that incorrect high rise intake, so I pulled the motor and I am going to put back in the original 402 that came with the truck.
