smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

Does anyone have smooth chrome locking gas cap for a 1.25" filler tube? I bought one from LMC that looks like this, but it looks like its for a 1.5" fill tube. I'm trying to find a better looking cap for my '72 Blazer.

Is this the one you have? http://www.manestruckparts.com/store...Category_ID=21
it shows that it only fit through 1970. They must have changed fill tube sizes. I can't seem to find anything for my '72 blazer.

Re: smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

ya, that's the one. I am not sure if they changed fill tube sizes, I think the only difference is that after 70 they started using vented tanks. 70 and earlier were not vented so you need a vented cap.

Re: smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

Here is what I have now. My current cap is on the left and the cap LMC sent me is on the right. The one on the right is to big for the fill tube, but is the style I'm after.

Re: smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

Bought a LMC cap for my '69 . Filled up , until pump kicked off . Turned right out of the store and gas leaked all over the road . They did refund my money . Got a reg cap on now . My cap's unvented and the tank's unvented . Is this right ?

Re: smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

Are you sure your cap is unvented style? you need to vent the tank some how otherwise you will create a vacuum in the tank. Leaking with a full tank is always a problem with a vented cap. some are designed better than others but all will suffer this problem to some extent.

Re: smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

I got mine from brothers but it looks like the one from Manes. Brothers cap fits from 67-72. It fits fine on my 71 Blazer, does the one you have completly not fit or does it just feel small to the neck? The reason i ask is the one i have you have to push in and wiggle to make sure the locks grab on to the lip of the neck. Once they grab theirs no coming off.

The smooth cap that I have is too big, not too small.

I got same as your smooth one from the truck shop in Orange CA, but it looks like they only carry the smooth one up to 70, the ones for 71 and 72 look more like your old one. http://truckandcarshop.com/6072.html

Re: smooth chrome locking gas cap- you have?

HOTRODHOMI,

Heres one on E-bay, and even thought it says it fits "up to a 70",
they give Dimensions on the 2nd picture that "May" help you.

Did you ever have any luck with this Cap?
I have been searching for the EXACT SAME CAP as YOU are, for my 72 GMC Shortbed Fleetside.
I have an EEC Canasister (with a small hose coming out of the Filler neck behind the seat), but have an "unvented" twist on Cap (Non Locking).

I could buy one like the Stant Model you show, but would prefer a Smooth Chrome Cap.
I bought one from Bobs Cheverolet and ran into the SAME PROBLEM as you, the Diamiter of the Cap was too BIG for the Filler Neck.

Please let me know either way.
Roger

OK, Its NOT Smooth, but I've been in this SAME Boat for over a year, and I have STILL not found a "Smoothie Locking Gas Cap" for my 72 GMC w/EEC.

So today I went to my Local Kragen/Orielly Store and for $13.00 (and some change), walked out with the Locking Gas Cap pictured below.
I must say I like it better than the BLARING RED STANT Circle on theres.
Also this Cap fits SNUG (not tight) but Snug.
Usually the ones I've bought have some slop to them, but not this one.
I'm entering my 1st Car Show with "RATIKLE" trhis weekend and didn't want some A$$ Hole putting something in my Tank.
I just consider myself lucky that no one has over the past year!
