firebird side markers installed
Just thought I'd post a pic of what I did last weekend, and see what your opinions are, not that it matters. I got used bezels from a 70- 81 Firebird, then got repro lenses from a catalog. With a little grinding on the tabs, they fit right in, though they are not square, and I can always put the Chevy lights back on if I change my mind, but for now I like it . It was much easier than frenching the originals, though it was a real pain putting the nuts on the rear lights. I've never seen another truck with these, and thought I'd share the idea, crappy pic.

It's always great to see something new it looks AWESOME ! I've got to know how low is your truck and what did you use to lower it and what is the wheel & tire size? I think the stance is dead on perfect.
Thanks, John

I'd heard of doin that before, and I was tempted to steel those lights and bezals off a kids trans am from school. he's trashed the car before anyone says shame on me, his grandpa built it for him, new paint and all, he's hit 3 deer, 2 mail boxes and I think 3 or 4 ditches...

yeah, how about a little more info on the marker lights... what do you mean "they're not square"... look ok to me... was the grinding you did on the lights or the truck?

Did you change the reflector size at all, I always thought that the firebird lenses were narrower and longer then the ones for the trucks.

I just got home from work and have to thank you guys for the replies/ compliments. I've learned a lot from others on this board, so I don't mind sharing the couple of things that I know. I will try to answer all of your questions. *WHYBYNEW: My truck is lowered about 4.5" in the front using 3" drop spindles, cut springs and the back is lowered 5.75" using 5" drop coils and .75" spacers on the trailing arms, c-notched frame. Wheel/ tire sizes are: front= 17x8 w/ 255-50, rear= 17x9 w/ 275- 50 (27.82" dia.) *67cst: The brand of rims and tires are Cragar SS and Nitto NT 450 (from Discount tire). *1971stepside: There isn't much detail to the installation. The lenses go behind the fender, and the bezels go on the outside of the fender, bezel posts through the fender and bezel, with tin nuts on the bezel posts. Your original bulb sockets will plug into the Pontiac lenses (GM is GM). *Bigvinnie: You will need to trim the large mounting tabs on the truck's sheetmetal so that they will fit in between the two light bars on the new lens. I did this with a Dremel tool and double-cut bit. What I mean by the new bezels not being squre is that they are more of a parallelogram shape than rectangle. It's not too noticeable on a Ponti, because the cutouts match. Most people won't notice, I suppose, but if you want a show truck, I would just french the originals. I can email a detailed pic, if anyone wants, I just don't know how to get a 100KB pic to post, only 30 or 600. *Chevjayfsd: I don't have a pic of the truck with the new lights yet. I waited for the frost to melt this morning so I could take these, and there is bird poop just outside of the pic. If it warms up, I'll hose off the truck and take a pic. Well, I'm going to have a cold one and watch CSI, that I recorded while at work. Thanks again guys, hope this helps.

Gee Emm: There were no mods to the Ponti parts. They are the same size as the Chevys', just not square. I couldn't believe it either- measured twice. If only GM had made them the same shape...

I think I saw a post on here quite some time ago about chevy van marker lenses fitting also, and being more flush than the originals... can anyone confirm this?
