best way to store cab and bed (with new paint on them)
im having a new cab and bed trailered over here sat morning. they both have new black paint on them. ill be storing them in the garage for a bit.
i was just going to get a bunch of tashed tires and lay some towels and foam over them that i have lying around. the bed i was just going to flip upside down and set the bedrails over the tires with towels. as for the cab what would be best? lie it on the back cab wall so the firewall is facing up towards the sky? anyone have any better ideas? |

Step one would be to get pictures for the rest of us.
I would set the cab as if it were going to be sitting on the frame. I would build a little 2x4 stand that simulates the frame and set it on that. Then cover it with some plastic with towels in between to avoid scratching. As for the bed I wouldn't set it on the bed rails (unless you have wood to put in it). I built a couple 2' high say horses that mine sits on. It makes it a great height to work on and keeps it up out of the way.

If they are freshly painted, I suggest you not cover them with anything for a couple of months - give the paint time to breathe and dry completely. I put mine on rollers, and rolled it outside to wash every couple of weeks. After two months I then put a good quality car cover on them - the paint looked fantastic because it had ample time to flow and dry naturally.
Good Luck! |

I wouldn't set the bed upside down on the rails as it could leave scratches/marks on the paint. I used a 'Rubbermaid' utility cart to hold my bed when I did my bags & c-sections. I just put some 4x4's across the top of the cart that were the width of the bedfloor. For the cab, buy some 4x4 lumber the length of the cab front to back, double stack it & you should be able to rest the c-channels that tie the rockers to the floorpans on them. When your done you can use the wood for other projects as needed.

I'd get some casters and make frames so you can roll it around.

You need to set the cab and the bed on the mounts. I'm assuming that all of the bed and cab is painted, inside and out? You definately don't want to be try flip those with them being painted. I guarentee you'll end up dropping them. Once you get them sat down you need a real soft cover to lay over it. I wouldn't put any tires or anyting on it either. I bet they will hurt the paint more than they will help. Also, you need to keep them out of the sun and get your other pannels painted ASAP, the longer you wait, the more of a chance they will look different.
