Powdercoated intake manifold pics and prices

I have had a lot of members ask me for powdercoated intake manifold prices. So, I pulled an old intake off the wall this morning and coated it to give everyone an idea of the end result.

This was my worst intake in my collection. The casting is pretty poor quality and very porous.

After an hour long burnoff process, I bead blasted it clean and bare. Then, I baked on two coats of high build primer powder to fill the irregularities. Last is a nice thick coat of orange powder. Last step is to detail the Edelbrock script with a Dremel and sanding pad to make it show up pretty.

I pay due diligence to any threads and holes. All will be masked or plugged through the process. There will be no stray powder in the threads or anywhere else it doesn't belong.

The price to do an intake like this is 60 dollars, assuming you send me a pretty clean intake to start with. No grease and little to no oil residue is ideal.

This price is for a solid color like this orange. If you want a metallic color, the price is 75. A metallic requires a clear coat, which is more powder shot, an extra remask job after the basecoat, then another trip into the oven.

I powder coat too, and I can appreciate how much work and time it is to powder coat. Sounds like a heck of a deal to me, cause I would charge more if I were to do this for someone.

Re: Powdercoated intake manifold pics and prices

Seems like you've really gotten into this powdercoating stuff. Too bad your all the way over in texas. What's it take to get into powdercoating? There are a ton of people out here that do it, but I 've never had anything done. I have a few items in the future that I would like to have done, just wondering if it's wise to have someone do it, or learn to do it myself?

Thanks,

Re: Powdercoated intake manifold pics and prices

Take another look at the intake that 70rs/ss posted above. I have one just like it, not coated. It is the air gap intake. I was wondering how well you can coat the area underneath? If you think you can get to it pretty good I'll probably send you some work.

Very Nice, I had mine off last year about this time and would have sent it down had you been doing this then. Good work.

Re: Powdercoated intake manifold pics and prices

On the air gaps, the powder is sort of attracted to the metal, so it should get in the gap pretty good, I'd guess?? Kevin, I'll PM you as I have at least two intakes I'd like to get done, and maybe a third. Too Cool!

Re: Powdercoated intake manifold pics and prices

I believe I can get the powder under the air gap okay. If I have to I will do what is known as hot flock it. I get the part good and warm prior to shooting it. This makes the powder stick to difficult areas much better.

Rick, the ultimate chrome powder runs an extra fifteen dollars since it requires a clear coat over the top of it. The price for a metallic like that is 75 total.
