Re: help ID this block
Mine's a 0010 too. It was originallly a 327. Some of the very first (68 - 69) large journal 4 bolts had 327 rotating assemblies. The deck height's the same (9.25 I think??) I had it bored .030 over and used a 350 crank and pistons with the 5.7 rods to make a 355. A 383 build is doable too !!
The starters for automatics and manuals bolt up differently. Otherwise, You should find they interchange. The starter I'm running came off my original 6 cyl. The bell housing and starter are the same on both. Last edited by DB Smith; 02-19-2009 at 07:19 PM. |

Re: help ID this block
That's just the casting number-fits hundreds of applications.
The good numbers are on the block surface just ahead of the right side head.If it hasn't been decked! It tells what you need to know. Mike. |

Re: help ID this block
It can be a 302 or 327 or 350. All have the same bore just different stroked cranks. You can use a 350 crank and the starter depends more on the flywheel size then the engine size. Hope this helps.

Re: help ID this block
Most blocks have 3 starters holes on the bottom and will accept the diagonal and straight across mount starters, some blocks only have the 2 holes for the diagonal pattern. I discovered this while trying to bolt a mini starter on a 3970010 block years ago and it didn't have the hole drilled for the straight across pattern that my mini starter needed. I had to drill and tap the block to bolt my starter on. This may be your issue.
As monte0185 said, a 3970010 block is definitely not a 307. It is a 4" bore block and they came as 302, 327, and 350 from the factory.
