Widest FRONT wheel??
I've seen several posts with requests for measurements and specs of the widest wheel that we can bolt to the back of these trucks....How about the front?? I'm sure a factory height truck is going to have more room, but I'm talking about trucks with at least 3"-4" of drop.
Here's a couple pics of when we bolted both of my 9.5" back wheels on to one side of Brian's 71. Of course we didn't try to drive it like this...but I like the look of a wide front wheel. These wheels have 4 3/4" backspacing....I'm guessing about 5.5" of backspacing would work??? Of course that might cause some inner fender/control arm issues. A larger diameter wheel could possibly clear the control arms (if there even was an issue here). It could be worth the inner fender mods in order to pull off the look? Of course, then we might have to widen the rear tubs and try to get some 11" or 12" wide rims back there.... |

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
In my opinion that looks perfect on the front with that backspacing. I like it when the tire sticks out even to the top lip of the wheel opening. If only the back was 1-2 inches wider. Of course this would not work with really low trucks though.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
I'd love to have 15x9F and 15x11R. It would look pretty sweet with about 4" backspace, that way the wheels stick out, but not too much.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
Out of curiosity, Asa, what backspacing and tire sizes are your's. I'm going to be ordering rims soon, and I know I want 17's, so I see no reason to reinvent the wheel (pun intended). I love the way all ya'll "Worthless" guys trucks look, and I'd like to go with a similiar combo. Thanks!

Brian and Chuckles trucks have the same size tires and wheels but they're both running 5" of Backspacing on the rear wheels. |

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
Thanks for the thread and the pics Asa, I've been trying to decide on what I want also, and wondered how a 17x9.5 with a 4&1/2" BS would look out back. Also, I have some 17x8s with a 5" BS, and wondered if they are going to clear on the front. I don't have the camera skill that you do, but here are some of a 17x9.5 with a 5 & 1/2" backspace, 275/50 tire. and a 4" drop. The backspace is maxed, with only about 1/2" of clearance.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
This is a 17x8" with the same size tire and a 4" backspace. I haven't got the fronts done yet, so no pics of that, but I'm hoping this thread will help me decide.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
Ray, if you haven't been welcomed to the board yet...WELCOME!!!! Try going to www.photobucket.com and setting up a free account for hosting your pictures. It only takes a few minutes and then you'll be up and rollin, showin off your ride.
Wynn, You gonna get back out there and bolt that 17x9.5 with the 5.5" BS on the front and see how it fits for me? .....Gonna take a couple pics while you're at it as well?? I'm not concerned about the inner fenders so much as control arm /frame interference. Thanks for all the feedback from everyone so far!! Lookin forward to seeing some more. (Looks like that lil pickup is coming together Wynn....When's it going to be road ready?) Last edited by see ten; 02-21-2009 at 12:54 AM. |

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
Thanks Asa. I was also wondering if a 17 X 9.5" with 4.5" BS would work, and you're pretty close at 4.75" If you had it to do over, would you go with a 4.75" again or recomend something else. I'm asking because you said Brian and Chuckles went with 5", and I was wondering if there was a reason why they did.

To do what we did Ray Rust, copy the link on your photobucket page that says "IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards" under the pic and paste it on this board.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??
I'd run a 5" BS before I went with a 4.5" BS. The reason I went with 4.75 is that I had bolted a friends 10" wide wheel that had 4.5" of BS on and it fit. The guys where I bought my wheels thought 5" would work...I split the difference. The reason that Brian and Chuckles went with 5" was that the kind of wheels they bought gave them a choice of 4.5" or 5". My wheels were true customs and I could have gotten whatever I wanted as far as BS
.....That was a lot of BS wasn't it? Here's a couple of pics of Brian's curent wheel...I've gotta have some better pictures somewhere... |
