More horse trading?
I think a lot of you that pay attention to this stuff know that I traded my black 71K10 to oldiron for his 1941 Caddy.
Well when that trade started to take place a very good long time friend (35 years) of mine called and asked me if I was interested in a trade of my K10 plus some cash for his truck. Well the deal with Dennis was done from the get go. I know Dennis will treat the K10 right, and if he ever decides to let her go I'm sure he will give me first shot. So I couldn't trade with my friend, and I sure don't have any extra cash to give out right now. After talking to my friend we got to kicking around the idea of trading my 71K20 for his project truck straight up. As much as I really love my truck, my real car passions lie in the older rides. Plus I still have my panel so it wont be like I don't have one of the style trucks we all love here. I think this would be a good trade. I think value wise they are pretty close to equal. His has a new 350/350 combo, new exhaust, new rear end, a pro installed volare front suspension and a bunch of other work he's done to it. All it needs is a little bit of body work, some paint and different tires and wheels. He's coming over this weekend so we can talk it over. Let me know what you think...Ill post a pic of mine and his.

Re: More horse trading?
Personally I wouldn't trade for a F*rd. But that F*rd is HOT! I'd trade for it, so much work has been put into it. Definitely worth it IMO.

Re: More horse trading?
Are you sick in the head??? I own a Mustang and wouldn't trade a Chevy that looks like yours st8 up for a Ford. I did however trade my non running 70' long bed Custom 10 for 2 Mustangs 1 running and 1 non.

Re: More horse trading?
I think the unibody trucks are sweet. Is that a LWB? I would love to have the Ford "if" it is a SWB. It's really hard to tell by the one pic if it looks like a fair trade. I just don't know about the deal.

Re: More horse trading?
Its a lwb shortened to swb length. Drive train is all Chevy. My truck looks much better in pics than it does in real life.

Re: More horse trading?
I would do it in a heartbeat that ford would look 100% better with a coat of paint and some nice wheels.

Re: More horse trading?
That's a tough one... I'm on the fence. If it was a C-10 I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I've always wanted a K10...
Look the body over good. Supposedly one of the reasons Ford quit making unibodys was because the panels were cracking, but that may have been limited to the longbeds and 4x4's.

Re: More horse trading?
I like the Unibody Fords, too. GM didn't do one and Ford had a problem with them when people loaded them down and the frame flexed and caused the doors to jam and be hard to open/close. As long as they weren't mistreated, they were fine. LWB was more susceptible to the problem, so anyone looking at one would need to be careful about it.
That SWB conversion looks soooooweeeeet. With some color on it, and a different set of rollers (my opinion) it would be spot-on.

I have never been a fan of any ford except the cobra and Elinore,so for me I wouldn't be to quick to make that trade. But if you like it go for it,just let us see it when you're done with it.

Re: More horse trading?
If you haul stuff with your chevy it may not be a good idea to trade for the unibody furd. If you don't have to worry about hauling stuff then,,,,,,,,by all means pick the one you like and build it or drive it, as the case may be.
The furd would be pretty cool painted on a set of 18s. It does have some really cool lines to it. The chevy is cool no matter what. Frank

Re: More horse trading?
I do use my truck as a truck. I can load it with whatever, and it takes a heck of a lot to get it to squat even a little. K20's are just beasts that do what you want. The Unibody is very cool and rust and defect free, not bad for a 48 year old truck.
Going to be a tuff call in the end.

Re: More horse trading?
I went junkyardin' with Andy4639 today and he was pickin' at me for ooogling all of the 50's and 60's Ford trucks that were there. There was A LOT of them. Quite a few 67-72's too. I got about 4 pics before my camera died
I love this one.

Re: More horse trading?
To quote the Guardian of the Emerald City gate, "Not no way, not no how!"
I had a nearly rust-free '63 SWB unibody that ran (V8 truck even) and drove about 4 years ago and that I paid $1500 for. I thought there's no way I couldn't make money on that truck at that price. WRONG! I put it on ebay 4 times starting with a reserve of a $2500 and working down to $2000 and it never sold. I had some interest and a lot of emails, but very few serious buyers. I ended up listing it for $1800 with no reserve, and had one bidder on it, and finally got rid of it. I just really thought it would have been worth more being so out of the ordinary. I personally don't really like the way they look, but a lot of people do, and I thought I could turn a good profit. At least its got a clip though, because in stock form, those old 50's and early 60's Fords are the most god awful driving trucks on the face of the earth. If you get one with a lot of miles on them they are downright dangerous! If you like it, go for it, I just wouldn't expect a good return if you invest a lot into it.

Re: More horse trading?
Here's a prime example. I checked Ebay, and I found this. This a low rust California SWB truck with a V8 and it sold for $1510! Imagine if this was a good running 67-72 SWB that was this solid...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1961-...QQcmdZViewItem I'm not trying to be buzzkill, I just don't want you to think that they are really worth anything just because they are rare like I did.

Re: More horse trading?
I just wanted to share my experience with them. I parted out and sold old cars and trucks for a few years when I got laid off from my job, and back then, that income COUNTED! I had a newborn and lots of bills. I did real good on 53 - 56 Fords and did fair on a '67 and a '70, but I had a hard time making any money on the '63, a 59, and two 66's. Avoid 58 - 60 Internationals too, I got hosed on one of them too! I had a '59 International SWB fleetside factory Automatic tranny truck that ran that I literally almost ended up giving away. I can tell you this, though, if you find a '66 or '67 Toronado that you can buy right for parts, buy it today. I parted a '67 out and made a little over $6000 on it and parted out a '66 and made almost $5000 on it. I could get $2000 for either car whole. I shipped the entire interior out of the '67 to a guy in England. If you see one with the deluxe hubcaps below, you're in luck. I sold the set for $377 to a guy in Texas on ebay and had 6 different people bidding on them!

Re: More horse trading?
All I can say is things have changed. Those Unibodies are as sought after by Ford and generic fans as much as a 67/72 shortbed...yeah really. The early`50s Effies were the first large organized following of hopped up pick-up.Now that`60s are classic the interest jumps ahead to these. If it`s what you like I`d say go for it.You already have a cool 4wd Chevy amd I think you like variety. And,you`re more hot rod than off road.
A friend was scoping a Uniboby this past summer and coudn`t find one priced right enough for him to bite. Those trucks are coming on strong and will only increase in value and desireablility. That`s my take.

Here's another example. This truck was on ebay and was only bidded up to $5900 and it didn't sell. This is a pretty nice truck, and a 460/C6 with power steering and power brakes. Even in this market, a 67-72 SWB in same shape with 18" wheels, a big block and turn key ready to look would have bidded way higher. If someone really likes these trucks, they are one of the odd vehicles that most everyone seems to like, but don't want to spend a lot of money on.

Re: More horse trading?
I guess you misunderstood.I didn`t say more people were looking for these.I can appreciate your opinion being different. But,it`s just a fact that those trucks are very desireable to Ford guys. There are more Ford guys than not that would never consider owning any Chevy from any year. They don`t want a 67/72 GM,never will. This particular truck that CG is considering would be very highly desired by a truck builder who likes Fords. They are "the" shortbed fleetside of Fords. We see all the other years messed with and these are a notch above all other Ford short wide beds. The big windows are most sought after.I don`t use anything as fickle as Ebay for a price guide.Thereis no price guide.Kelly tried and it`s just a joke. These times are not a good example of how anything sells and certainly not a time to assess a proper value based on sales.I`m not comparing Fords to Chevys.I`m just looking at the Ford Unibody for what it is on it`s own.
There`s a huge fad for the 67/72 Chevys these days.In fact, more like 67/68 short widebeds. All vintage GM trucks have been highly desired for many years. But,the "fad" is 67/72s.That`s not to say other years aren`t sought after or valueable. The same goes for other brands.
