350 Engine Pics / Air Cleaner Options

I am changing the carburetor on my truck to an Edelbrock 1406 and while I was making the swap I found an Aluminum Edelbrock manifold on my truck. It was just hidden under a fine layer of patina, ok old grime. I have just about got things finished except for the Air Cleaner. My old one was a 10"X2" and as I read the Edelbrock Owners Manual they say I need a 14"X3", I always thought my truck ran a bit fat.

I would like to see what other folks are running.

How did you hook up the breather tube or is putting a breather in the valve cover better?

Jegs 14"X3" non logo with flat base. Plugged the breather hose and have open element on valve cover.

Re: 350 Engine Pics / Air Cleaner Options

I'm seeing everyone is using a breather in the valve cover rather than the breather through a tube into the air cleaner.

Re: 350 Engine Pics / Air Cleaner Options

Hey all, Thanks for the ideas. I went with a K+N and installed a breather in the valve cover. In the mean time I cleaned up the old fire wall, WOW I found paint.

Re: 350 Engine Pics / Air Cleaner Options

I have another question. My Edelbrock #1406 carburator has two vacuum ports for the distributor. One says it's a timed vacuum the other is not. I am running a later model electronic ignition. Which vacuum port should I be using?

You should use the timed vacuum port going to distributer vacuum advance.

Cool thread!

I'll have the same dilemma when I put the 1406 on. Assuming I ever get around to it! lol...

Where did you get the K+N and how much, if you don't mind. It looks good!!!

Re: 350 Engine Pics / Air Cleaner Options

I’m using a 65903 - Moroso low profile air cleaner with a stock 4 barrel spacer for the PCV vent tube to the valve cover.

Also thought I would try and see if using pictures that are already loaded on another thread could also be used on this thread without having to load them again and taking up server space. If you can’t see the pictures of the air cleaner there on my build thread.

Re: 350 Engine Pics / Air Cleaner Options

Bruce88, that looks nice I was about to go with the spacer on my carb but it looked to tall so I went with the breather in the valve cover. I still have the old spacer I may have to take another look at it. Oh and that's a nice looking engine!!!

3quartertime, I paid $150 for the K+N, a little pricy but at my age I should never have to buy another air filter. I was able to notice the power increase between the old 10"X2" and this 14"X3" K+N. They say I will get better milage to so I see it as an investment that will pay off.

jgreene0717 Thanks for the info. I'll move it over to the timed port.
