Lose it or Keep it

I was wondering on your opinions on putting a 79 grill back in my K10. Orig. Owner zip-tied a "after market" one in it. I bolted it on correctly after breaking a zip-tie deer hunting. Them bolts are a pain to get too.....

Anyway, I was wondering two things. Number one, can someone post a 79 grill? From my understanding it's large squares and a chevy logo in the middle.

Number two, Would you keep the shiny one or put in a "stock" one? and where could I find one?

p.s. the junkyards around here are terrible. I asked 4 of them for a TH350 dipsticks and all the lazy asses mostly said "I'm not sure if we have something that old...."

Re: Lose it or Keep it

The grille in your truck looks fine. If you want original, the79 model year had 3 grilles. Here's a pic of my 79 with the original grille for it's Silverado trim package. It was a darker shade than the standard grille. There was an optional chrome grille that could be ordered that came with a couple specialty packages also. The 1980 grille is the one with the square's. The green truck is an 80.

Here's another one. It's the same as the one on dooleys truck. Here's the same grille with and without the silverado trim.

Re: Lose it or Keep it

I went back to the stock grill in my 79, with Cheyenne trim. I think the runnun boards on yours look fine tho, I've got em on my 87, and love 'em.

I agree with mostly everyone, keep the tube grille and remove the running boards and cab visor.

Re: Lose it or Keep it

Greetings from South Central Nebraska. If you are going to do any type of off roading, keep the tube grill. The factory grille looks great, but will break like the one 84 400 has if you look at it cross eyed. The are extremely flimsy. Great looking truck by the way.

Thanks! The inside has custom seats. The P.O. cut the dash, so I stuck a CD deck in the hole. That's about it. I did all the stuff to the front. The truck had no bumper and a plow bracket welded to the frame horns when I got her. A rusted tube grille, and no tow hooks. Most of the front chrome is from LMC.

Hey, didn't think there where any Nebraskans on this board. I was wrong. Good to see there's a few around.

Thanks. I think I'll keep my grill guys.

There was a guy on here several months ago that claimed to have one of the actual trucks used in production. I did a search and cant find the thread right off hand, so it may have been deleted, not sure.
