Steering component interchange- I'm so confused!
I always thought there was a difference in the steering pars between a half ton and a 3/4 ton... Here's the deal...
As some of you know, I drug home a 1988 crew cab (R-series, so it's the 73-87 style truck). It's a 2 wheel drive. The guy I bought it off of kept the steering box, pitman and idler arms, and tie rod assemblies. This truck is a 3/4 ton. I looked up all these parts on Autozone and wrote down the part numbers. Now, my parts buggy is an 86 Suburban 1/2 ton. Just for giggles, I looked up all the same parts on Autozone for it, and lo-and-behold... All the part numbers were the same! So, PLEASE VERIFY THIS FOR ME- I can take the tie rod assemblies, center link, pitman and idler arms, and steering box off of the 1/2 ton Suburban and install them onto the 3/4 ton crew cab... and it'll be correct with no mods, no loss in strength, etc. Direct swap, right?
