'69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

Is this correct? Was the Jimmy made as a pickup too. Not just the Blazer/SUV style? http://abilene.craigslist.org/cto/1058027204.html

No, just a regular GMC pickup. For some reason alot of people think anything gmc is a jimmy.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

"Jimmy" is, and has been, a nickname for GMC trucks since before I was born....and that was just after black shoe dye marketing began.

Kinda like "Chevy"......

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

chevrolay is right.
Jimmy was slang, that GMC took from us, to name there blazer clone.

So in a sence, any GMC pickup is a jimmy... but, on the other hand, they aren't.

Clear as mud?

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

I replied to the ad, that I didn't think it was a Jimmy. The owner's reply was I should do my research. "It has Jimmy emblems on the side and the Vin search showed a pickup". I didn't bother to reply any further.

Another question. Will it show Jimmy on the title?

OH WELL! If the emblems on the fender say Jimmy it HAS to be a Jimmy; because there is no possible way that the fender emblems got changed over the years.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

Yeah, my first thought was a changed emblem or fender.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

Life existed before`70 when GMC decided to take a name from the people and use it.GMCs have been called Jimmys as long,or longer, than Chevrolets have been called Chevys. It would be like if Chevrolet decided to call their new SUV in`69 a Chevy.Would we have stopped calling Chevrolets Chevys?

the title can be manipulated easily. It may say it, may not.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

My foggy brain kinda remembers the Jimmy TV ads. I think they were using a cricket cartoon character in the ads, as in Jimminie Cricket. But I can't remember what vehicle it was, only that it was black. I also remember people calling GMC vehicles Jimmys way before that.

But you can't blame GMC for doing that. They just followed Willys' lead, as Willys' cashed in on the Jeep name, which was slang for, "General Purpose", vehicle during WWII.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

I'm going to stick some Blazer emblems on my truck ...then it will be a rare 3/4 ton Blazer pickup

Kinda reminds me of the Corvette option truck we saw a while ago.

Or,like how Harley took our name "Hog" just to turn around and threaten to sue if we use it.

special K, you can use the Hog name, but not the HOG name.

HOG, stands for Harley Owners Group. That's the factory sponsored riding organization.
And you can't use the bar and shield logo. Even if you own an independent Harley repair shop. Imagine if GM went after all the independent repair shops and telling them, that they can't display the bowtie, in their shop ads.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

Harley made Custom Chrome stop making "Hawg Oil" and "Hog Hollow" change their name to "Fog Hollow".I could name more.I say the same ting.Harley never used it until`83 when Harley Owners Group started, which isn`t the word hog at all. It`s three words abbreviated and doesn`t even refer to the same thing. But,they have lawyer money and make people cease and desist.
What I love is when Harley came out with the FLSTN,otherwise known as a Nostalia(cross between a Heritage and Fat Boy) Nostalia Cycle sued them and they had to stop using it.I love it,it works both ways.

Re: '69 GMC Jimmy Pickup?

On the topic of Jiminy Cricket.....Plymouth had the compact Cricket in the early 70's as they tried to glom onto some of the economy car craze. Since they had the Road Runner.....with Wiley Coyote and the Road Runner as spokesfigures, it makes sense that Jiminy Cricket would chirp the praises of the English-built Cricket, at the time.
