Will doors from heavier duty models fit?
Hey all. Just curious if doors from the 2 ton and up trucks will fit ours? I found some in a local yard that were in better shape than mine and it kind of looked like they might work. TIA
Greg

I've wondered about that too. I've seen a few in the yards that looked better than mine.
Anyone?

The doors fit, but aren't the bottom corners clipped? I know I have seen trucks with about a 3x3 triangle missing from the lower corner.

hmmm...didn't even think to check the corners. I was looking more at contours and such, not so much the corners. I might just go grab the things and try 'em out. If they don't fit, I think the yard has a return policy.

I swear I've seen them both ways...some missing corners, and some not. I'll have to re-check the truck in our local yard. I can't remember.
At least the door might have a usable regulator.

I was always lead to believe that the cabs were the same. They just added an extended step below the rocker panel . No ?

Sometimes they are clipped sometimes they aren't. You will just have to take a look. Plus some of the heavy duty trucks have big ass cool rear view mirrors!

No kiddin about the mirrors...I'd been debating what to do about that. I sure don't like the look of the one's mine came with and the one's I found from an 85 don't work (I swear I've seen one of ours with those style). The peep ones look about as good as you can get but they seem a little small to me. I wonder how those big-ass-no-kiddin-around mirrors would look...hmmm...
longhorn; that's pretty much what it looked like to me. Just a taller step. You say the cab is the same too? I did check out the dash and it looked identical to mine. I was tempted to take the cluster as it had a couple of guages I don't. I wonder what they'd want for the whole shootin match.... I think I'm going to go back and have a second look later this week. I believe so, Greg. Now keep in mind that the cluster will probably have a vacumn ( I think theres a "n" there....lo) gauge. Most always have the tach as well.

My parts books show different part numbers for the PU's and big trucks. So something is different, maybe

I know the 68 in my local yard has the chopped off corners on the doors. I have been lead to believe that they had 2 styles...one cut, one not.
On the cab, the 'dog house' (indentation on firewall for engine) is WAY bigger and deeper. |

the cabs are WAY different. the doghouse is huge and the cab mounts are in a different location. the floorboard is only about a foot long. ( from the seat to the pedals ).

hmm....so maybe not on the cabs then....
so if the doors are not of the cut-corner variety, they should work? Greg

This is the big truck from ebay like a week ago. I don't believe these doors would fit. Check out how far the fender comes back. Or maybe it's just the oversized fender skirt blocking the part of the door. But here's a pic of a 2 ton.

Man! that thing looks wild!
Well...I'm gonna go to the yard in the next couple of days and have a 2nd look to be sure. If they look like they'll work and are in good enough shape, I'm going to get 'em and give it a shot (can always return if they don't fit). Besides, it had a full-guage panel (not all the guages though). Maybe I'll grab a disposable camera or something and take a couple of shots of the thing when I go. Thanks yet again! Greg

the door bottom isnt as wide as a pickup door. so it wont seal against the door gasket.

Take some measurements from your current doors, then take a tape measure to the yard and compare results, you might just get lucky.

The guage panel will not fit either...at best it is a 'parts panel'.
When you sit in the drivers seat of the big truck, look at where the steering column goes into the dash. If you look above that point at the inst panel, you'll see a faint line where it would be cut if it was in a C/30 and smaller. |

I have a '72 C-60. The corner is clipped.
If it has a short hood, then that means the fender arc goes into the door, and the door has a corner cut off. I've heard of people welding on the missing piece, but haven't seen it personally. The cabs are a little different too. The firewall dogouse is deeper to allow for large engines, so they use all sorts of different heater components on the inside. I've thought of using a cab off a big truck on a pickup to allow for certain engines, but never have done anything with it.

The inst cluster will fit you just need a new bezel or trim the one from the 2ton and up trucks to fit. There is a line on the bezel that matches our trucks line for the steering column. I have one out of a 5 ton with an air gauge and anouther with vac gauge and it fits fine, just take a dremel tool or such and trim away the unwanted plastic

PROTRUCKS, very good point. I should have said that instead of saying it was not usable. Thanks.
