~The New Guy~
My weekend?! well.....I finally became a member here after lurking for months and scored a 69 Fleetside thanks to a motivated seller. It has very little rust, just surface around the weather stripping, slight exterior pitting on the rockers, and the drip rails are starting to pop in a few places, that's it!!! It was "grandpa's ol truck" with the original 307/2bbl and THM350 with only 132k miles on it, manual steering(sloppy) and power brakes. It has a decent sized dent in the passenger side bed, right above the wheel, but other than that is perfectly straight. It was resprayed a couple years ago this purple color(ugh), but it is a wonderful platform for beginning my project, and made the 40 mile trek home down I-5 at 70mph with zero issues....
the price?.......$2200, that's right...$2200. I couldn't be happier, and am super excited to start swapping out some parts and take this truck to the next level. Here are the craigslist photos, I'll try and get some new ones once it isn't rainy and crappy around here. |

Nice truck. I saw that one on craigslist and tried to get my dad to buy it... he lives in lake stevens too. You did get a great deal!
Maybe I'll see you driving around. This is what I drive. |

Re: ~The New Guy~
Thanks all.
Special K - It was an olive green truck from the factory - it appears they resprayed the interior the off white color at the same time he did the purple. After some more digging it is apparent it was a quicky job too, plenty of green still underneath the dash... |

Re: ~The New Guy~
I'm a coug, so the purple cuts at my soul! hehe!
It's come a long way so far...Totally gutted, wire wheeled all the loose rust, applied 2 coats and rinses of naval jelly, then 2 coats of rust inhibitor, then primer. The rest got the same plus the rattle can treatment; 3 coats of paint, 2 coats of clear. The end of my finger is still slightly numb from pressing those rustoleum tips for days on end. The only rusted through areas were in the low back of the cab and bottoms of the kick panels. These areas got good old jb weld putty. I got the new window felt/scrapers in tonight, along with the dash vents/tubes, cigarette lighter, igntion, rearview mirror, and dome light. You can see the metallic aluminum colored paint on the steering column, this is painted the same on the door panels, glove box, ashtray, etc...Just removing the cream and brown interior the PO had installed and repainting it has brought a good breathe of new life into it. beatcoaster...looking good. Get ready for the big Monroe Swap Meet May 16-17 where we will all get together for burgers, brats and bench racing.
Indyuke...you are close enough to walk to Monroe from Marysville...well almost. Hope to see you there as well.

Re: ~The New Guy~
The swap meet sounds wonderful, but that is 2 weeks before my wedding and every last cent I have will be sucked into that event, so unfortunetly the best time for me to buy parts is also the worst...How often are the swap meets? It seems they are a couple times a year no? I may just go to meet some folks and drool over the things I want but cannot afford!!..

Re: ~The New Guy~
No need to buy...but you will likely find something for $1-$10 that you cannot live without...LOL! Parking is $5..unless you find a free spot...also easy to do. There is another Monroe swap meet in October if you miss this one. It's fun just to look and hang out...inexpensive entertainment!

Re: ~The New Guy~
A couple more update photos...Interior is coming along nicely, although much slower now, busy weekends don't leave much time for this
New carpet, dynamatted the doors(not shown), and a mess of wires to be installed Polk db seperates in the dash, sounds nice Custom bracket I made to house the (2) 5-1/4's, barely cleared the top of the headunit Seat came out darn nice for stock foam(which was in amazing shape) and an extra 1" layer on top. Pedals in, doors together, 6x9's in, glove box in, heater controls in, headunit in, seat cover on and already stretching(annoying)...Seat mocked up, still need to paint brackets and install subwoofers and amplifier Bought a repop cover and two old gauge clusters, repainted and refurbed the gauges, got them all installed and rewired the truck pinouts per gmcpauls tip. All of them work like a champ from the get go and zero oil leaks from the gauge. lots of fingerprints, lol! I have an amp and two 8's that I will be building custom boxes under the bench seat for(stock gas tank still) which will be powering those and the 6x9's with just the deck running the dash sets crossedover at 80hz...Once that is complete it is time to begin work on the tired and very leaky drivetrain.....
