Strange noise
Some of you may remember when I blew out the rear gears, well we put new gears, carrier bearing and U joints in, now there's this rumble vibration at any speed when I take my foot off the gas and it seems to be getting worse. There's no play in the shaft at all but I had a friend put it through all the gears while I looked under the truck and the shaft moves up and down when it changes gears and when he put it in reverse it really moved. Maybe the wrong carrier bearing? What would be the correct one if so?

I have that same problem on my 70 C20. I'm pretty sure its the carrier, I didn't get that noise until after I replaced it. The one the parts stores where telling to use didn't look like the one I took off. The parts store told me the original style was no longer available and the style they had would work. It fits ok but the U-joint cover rubs on the carrier housing. I was thinking of cutting off the U-joint cover. Anyone else have a better idea or know where to get the original style carrier.

Did you notch the driveline before you took it off so you could bolt it up the same way you took it off it could be out of balance, just my .02

Yeah, I'm gonna pull out the shaft and put it back in 180 degrees, see if that works.

Those carrier bearings have urethane instead of rubber, and they are way stronger looking than the ones you get at the parts store. I have the one in the bottom pic, and I haven't put it in yey, but it looks really strong.

They balance those drivelines at the factory before the get put on, therefore if you don't keep it that way when you take it apart and put it back together it's out of balance. I don't know if that's your problem, but if it is your gonna have to do a 1/4 rotation till you find the bolt up that works. Just helping ya brainstorm.
