E brake problem. 72 chevy

When I got the truck I had to redo all the brakes.

My question is when I put the brake petal down it doesnt spring back up when I pull the handle.

any ideas.

Re: E brake problem. 72 chevy

I have the same problem with my '71 GMC. I find that the pedal will come up more if I hold the release handle out longer. Or I'll tap it up with the toe of my left boot.
Supposedly there's a little spring inside somewhere. I couldn't find it. I've shot WD40 at it blind with not much effect.
It's worse when it's cold out. In hot weather, it pops right up.
Go figure.

Re: E brake problem. 72 chevy

I was having the same problem. I replaced the e brake cable on the left side where it goes into the backing plate and it is better. The cable has a spring on it and this is what I believe pulls the pedal back up.

I have purchased the right side on as well but have not installed it.

Re: E brake problem. 72 chevy

anybody ever think of lubricating the 40year old cable so it would move freely?

In my case the cable moved freely the spring tension was long gone and therefore would not fully release the cable. If someone has had luck by simply lubricating the cable I would be interested in hearing about it.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
