rollpan vs. chrome bumper
hey i was wondering what is the best way to go to get a rollpan or a sport chrome bumper. i heard that a little costumizing had to be done to make the bumper look right, and can i use the factory bumper brackets? is a bolt on roll pan easy to install?

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
My old boss put a roll pan on his 94 Suburban, then a few weeks later proceded to back into a poll, busting the roll pan and denting the door.
A bumper would not have been dented at all. I'm not trying to talk anyone out of a roll pan, it's just something to think about. I like 'em both ways the same so I couldn't vote on it. They look good to me with no bumper or pan, so I've been snatching those unused factory LP lamps/brackets that are hidden behind the bumpers. |

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
to me a roll pan in the back and a chrome bumper in front looks out of place, here's this big honkin chrome thing on front and this painted smooth back, looks unfinished to me or two different styes competing

I like the sport bumper too! I agree it looks out of place with a front bumper and no rear bumper.

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
It's really a matter of preference. I think the current trend on our era of trucks is running stock bumpers front and rear. I like that trend myself.
Some may prefer a roll pan, but I think it looks out of place unless the truck has other custom features such as shaved handles, drip rails, etc.

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
I had a roll pan on my '83. Now I have a sport bumper on my '73. I prefer the bumper look...

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
What years of trucks did the sport bumper come on? Did they come from Factory with them? Why would you have to modify the brackets to make them fit right?

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
i think it depends on what the plans are for the truck, if its gonna stay stock or raised, i say sport bumper. but if its gonna be lowered or slammed, then id go with the rollpan IMO

Most "trucks" were order without out a bumper and had a dealer installed "step" unit that was int tune with the owners use. The brackets to fit the sport bumpers are different than the step bumpers due to their shape.

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
I like sport bumpers...but when you pull them in tight to the body, they dont offer much "crash" protection! Another option would be to color match the bumpers to the body color.

I think if you use one off of a Blazer or Suburban, some modifications may be needed. I think the brackets are different. I'm not quite sure though.

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
I like the bumper look on there, I agree with everyone else and it looks out of place with the bumper on front and pan in the back...
Love that look Crawdad!

I have a step now but like the looks of a sport better. I will have to go look for a suburban at the wreckers now

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
+1
Sport bumpers were a factory option on these trucks so nothing special is required. You can use the outer brackets from a Suburban or Blazer, but the inner brackets are truck specific but are available from LMC.

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
I prefer the sport bumpers when they're tucked up tight. Huge gaps are major fail.
I lucked out when I went to the salvage last month. They were having a big sale and I got a sporty with brackets for $17.99! |

Re: rollpan vs. chrome bumper
I like the bumper a lot, but I put the rollpan on the blazer, you just don't see them much and I was going for a look that most people don't go with.
