Couple of questions with my c20 rear with 12" notch
This is my first Chevy truck build. You can get my complete run down on my build thread in my signature.
I installed my Notches today then realized I did not take in consideration how much the axle will/might move forward when it comes up in the notch. I think I have ample room with my notches. Is the vertical movement of the axle stay the same or varies when lowered and raised? I went with a 12" notch so I could have a 1.5" bump stop and still lay my bed on the ground with 20" rims. Are my calculations right with being able to lay the bed on the ground with my notch? I will have custom lower control arms with a wishbone.... Here is where I am at right now with my truck...... Thanks six5 Last edited by six5; 03-14-2009 at 11:23 PM. |

Man!! you've got a ton of room there. If your keeping the T-arms,you will want to slide the crossmember so your wheel is centered in the fender well when layed out. you can set the bed on and figure out how much to move the crossmember or some guys already know and maybe will chime in.....

Re: Couple of questions with my c20 rear with 12" notch
Hey Inverter. I will be doing a setup similar to what Twisted built.
I made my notch larger because I have plans on doing some cool bracing up top with logo in the middle. And I actually found the answer to my second question about laying rockers with a 12" notch. It will lay down with 20" rims. six5 Last edited by six5; 03-15-2009 at 12:12 AM. |

Re: Couple of questions with my c20 rear with 12" notch
I was able to answer my question about axle placement today. I cut the frame between my notches and all is good. The axle moved about 3.5 inches forward when all the way up in my notch.....

Re: Couple of questions with my c20 rear with 12" notch
with a 4link or 3link (as pictured above) your axle shouldnt move 3.5 inches forward. On my 69 it moves an inch forward when laidout.

Re: Couple of questions with my c20 rear with 12" notch
FnLow thanks for the reply. I am sure once I install my wishbone and control arms it won't move nearly as much as it does now. Do you have any pictures of your rear setup?
Does your pinion angle change a lot when aired up versus aired down? Last edited by six5; 03-15-2009 at 11:26 PM. |

Re: Couple of questions with my c20 rear with 12" notch
Yea,thats a lot of movement,,,I cant say for sure, being that I havent cut into my 66 yet but Ive heard 1" to 1 1/2" movement. I would set the bed on to get it perfectly centered but thats the way my brain works....
On another note..How do you know the amount of travel/direction w/o any link bars in place? Edit:jus saw your post. Last edited by Inverter; 03-15-2009 at 11:31 PM. |
