paintin a frame
ok guys just got my new 85 k10 frame from fellow member 68customcamper, an I would recommend doing business with mike to anyone, my question to the masses is what to use for chassis protection?? PR-15 I know is what a lot of guys have used, but from time in the auto restoration business I know that it is suppose to be primarily used on body panels, doesn't hold up to the weather an roads here in the northeast on a chassis!!! Ive seen a couple guys mention stuff from eastwood, an I have also seen the rust-bullet from summitt?? At work we have used SEM's Rust-shield on older dump truck bodies, but doesn't hold up much!!!Lookin for advice from everyone an anyone, small or little doesn't matter, every little bit will help, pics would be nice also, here's a pic of the current frame!!!! if youre building a show truck por 15 if youre restoring a truck for a daily driver or for fun rustoleum will do just fine

two words: hot tar.
 i'd say spray it with 3 or 4 thick, heavy coats of rustoleum, lay it on and that should hold up

POR is paint over rust. It will not stick to your old paint OR shiney metal on your frame! It sure didn't mine, came off in big sheets. As said above, Eastwood sells a strong frame paint, but pricey. I would sandblast, shoot epoxy primer then paint it.

Mainer. I used POR15 on mine and this is how I did it. POR needs rust to work properly, keep that in mind. I sand blasted the frame first to get it down to bare metal, then wetted it down and let it sit a few days, then POR'ed it. 2 coats with 1\2 hour in between. Then a coat of primer when the last coat of POR was just tackey, then 2 coats of enamel on top. POR will not stick to flakey rust or bare unrusted steel. Don't use a wire brush to take rust off, all this does is polish the rust. Sand blast and grind only. Been on for 2 years now with no problems. jim

1984 K20 350M engine with 465,000 miles. Well, it's finally done!! Almost 2 years of work, but it was really worth the effort. Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shot Jim or Paladin whichever you choose.

POR-15 sticks great when it is applied right. Everyone has said it wont stick to smooth metal, but you can give the frame a good grinding if you want to go that way. Follow the manufactures directions for application and it works very well. Also, they make cleaners and prep products to go with it. They work well. Good luck to you on your project.
