Meet and Greet with SlimPikins

We where looking at each others Trucks and comparing Carbs. He mentioned that he has an auto choke and I don't. I took a few pictures for you guys to well lend a hand because there is a broken spring on the manifold.

So we go back into my garage and we are standing around my motor just shooting the bull. Its a bit windy outside and all of the sudden there is a boom sound and what sounds like a Vacuum. I notice my small hand vacuum that I hang on the wall. We both look up and the general statement was what the heck is that.

We both thought did a tree just fall down? Yep

Nothing like snapping 3 joists that somehow I get to figure out how to fix later.

Luckily the tree fell at an angle and hit my garage opposed to straight across the driveway and taking out SlimPikins truck.

Oh yeah nice to meet you Slim.

Re: Meet and Greet with SlimPikins

Boy it was windy here all day. Glad no one was hurt. I took down any trees that could be a threat after we had that bad storm in Dec. 07. Hope you can get that fixed before the roof has any leaks.

Re: Meet and Greet with SlimPikins

What really annoys me and I guess I should of said it in the original post. I was standing outside just before Slim got there and looked at that damn tree and thought when its not windy I'm taking that thing down. Well I don't have to do that anymore.

I will however have to take down a few others because they look really freaky. Heres what the back yard looks like. I have 4 strays to the left and damn if I didn't take them down.

The trees in the back pretty much all lean away from the house and are Freakin GIANTS. I have some to the side that are easily 150 plus.

I'm just happy that nobody was hurt and Slims truck wasn't crushed.

That is a scary scene. I'm glad only the shop got hurt and no people or trucks, plus you can purchase replacment joists, sheathing and three-tab composition shingles at The Home Depot or Lowe's, but I doubt they sell any cabs, doors or hoods for 4-5-6 Chevy trucks there.

Good luck with the repairs and be safe.

Re: Meet and Greet with SlimPikins

Yeah that would of been a real bummer. Finally get the front clip off and have a Tree hit my truck. hahaha

I'll post update pictures when we repair the damages. Its going to have to wait for a few months, but that is when we plan on tackling it.

Just my feelings hurt a little bit. As well my progress on my truck might take a little hit, but hey grinding and taking things apart is free so maybe not as bad as a hit.

Re: Meet and Greet with SlimPikins

I would put a large plank across the trusses and jack them up; then sister some 2x4's against the broken pieces on either side. Nail 'em every 4" entire length. You could also use some OSB to fill in the 'triangle' to strengthen it back up. This is how Ive seen many trusses repaired over the years.

Glad nobody got hurt!!!!!!

Pretty much what I'm going to do. I didn't think of using the OSB in the Triangle, but it would be a good indicator if something slipped because they'd make some noise or break.

Yeah My father-in-law came over with his Saw and a case of Budweiser and got it off my roof. As soon as I picked up all the beer cans another buddy came over and we tarped it off.

I was a little annoyed that it took more cans of beer than gas to clear the roof, but I've told him 234234343413434 times not to drink and saw, but thats another story all together. Hes bigger than me swinging a saw so I just stand and watch.

We are shooting for later sometime when its not raining off/on to get it all fixed up. You'll know just so I can harrass you some more. It'll probably end up being a BBQ/putting the roof off/on party. Who ever wants to come over is welcome. There isn't tons to do, but I'm sure it will end up costing me steaks, burgers and sodas for sure. I don't drink so I normally don't provide either.

I think the next Meet we should meet where there is No trees. hahahahaha
