Smile Sway Bar Installed (No Pics)

Ok guys I have never had a sway bar on my truck untill last night. I bought the frame mount brackets from a local dealer. I bought the Energy Suspension brackets and poly bushings. I got the bar from Tom, thanks Tom!. Got all the hardware from Lowes (all grade 8).

I installed it all last night. It was a pretty easy install except I had the bar upside down the first time I tried it (thankfully Mike posted a picture of his bar installed on another thread that I looked up with the quickness). Other then that it went on easy. As far as taking the sway out of my truck it seemed to work somewhat, but not as much as I would like (I want a race car ) But it did help and I need to drive it some more to figure out exactly how much it helped. It really did take alot of sway out of my truck. Now I need some really good shocks to finish it off.

In conclusion I would do it again if I got another truck like this.

Glad to hear it worked eddie. Now I need to get my ass down to the junkyard and get a 1 1/4" bar.

I finally got that cd unit out, and the dash/instruments off, and those wires all done. Turns out I cut the correct wire, I just made the lame mistake of testing the wire on the dead side, not the live side. Ooops
It looks so much cleaner now. I love it

Damn thats funny!!! I never thought of you testing the wrong side Let me know when you plan to go to the junk yard I might go too, theres always little stuff to get.

After I left your house I hit the 202 then I10 on my way home. I got to about 35th ave and I noticed smoke in the headlights of a Camero behind me. I started thinking the worst. The truck was running fine and no lack of power so I kept going. Th smoke seemed to get even worse. The camero behind me changed lanes because of my smoke. I kept going. I had the fire extinguisher ready just in case. I got off the I10 at 79th ave park and ride and it wasnt smoking anymore. I went home and looked around. My valve cover was leaking so bad that it was dripping on the exhuast. Damn was it leaking alot. Gonna try and fix it this weekend.

Eddie,

now get you a rear bar and some real good shocks, and it will turn a curve like you wouldn't believe. My truck as almost no lean at pretty fast speeds in pretty sharp curves. I haven't really put it to it's limits, I guess because I'm chicken of losing it, but I don't doubt what it can handle. Funny how age has a way of making you think about things before you do them.

Breaking $212 rims makes you think twice also. I busted my front Weld Draglite doing donuts at the Pets Mart by my house a few years ago. That really made me think about how I drive. I don't do donuts like that any more. I do plan to get a rear bar and would like to get some Edelbrock IAS shocks. Didn't Edelbrock just release (in the last 3 months) a newer cheaper version of the IAS shocks?

Eddie,

I believe you are thinking about the twin tube shocks they came out with. These are not the IAS monotube design. Cheaper, but nowhere as good.

Yeah Mike these are the ones I was thinking of:

They are only $49.99 compared to $69.99.

Whats the big difference between the two as far as how they perform?

Eddie,

far as I know, it's the IAS technology/valving that is why they are cheaper. The twin tube shocks are not IAS shocks. Don't know the difference in mono and twin tubing either. I do know my IAS's are an upside down shock, meaning the big part is at top, and the polished shaft is at the bottom. They come with a shock boot to protect the shaft.

What is it I say all the time? Oh yeah, you get what you pay for.

I don't know if they ever will make a drop IAS shock for our trucks. They already have them for 88 up I think, or at least sometime in the 90's anyway. I've seen the ads where they offer them for these trucks. Maybe if enough of us ask for them, they will provide them. You know, the supply and demand thing.
