62 engine mount question
Well, I'll admit I'm a newbie to both these trucks and chevy's in general. I am working on my recently aquired 62 GMC stepside with plans to instal a 350 with auto trans. Pulled the 305 V6 out and am looking at what I think are NOT factory engine mounts. Also, it looks to me as if a prior owner boxed in the frame rails at the mounts as well. I have no info about the truck as it was a gift and can't get any history on her. Also pulled a three speed manual from her. From what I've seen of others peoples trucks on this site, my mounts look non-factory, welded in place. The 305 attached to these with simple rectangular rubber engine mounts. Can't find any numbers on the frame rail either so I don't even know if this is original frame
Any thoughts?? Last edited by ceruzziracing; 04-01-2009 at 07:45 PM. |

Re: 62 engine mount question
Looks right to me.
I have a 62 GMC as well, and your frame and engine mounts are standard. The GMC frame came boxed, not like the chevy. Because of this, a little adjusting will need to be done when converting over to , well, say a 73-87 front suspension, or to power steering. The holes to these parts will line up on the Chevy frame, so I'm told, but not everything lines up to our frames. I'm in the middle of my project, but let me know if you need any other info. |

Re: 62 engine mount question
Thanks so much, I had looked at pics of other frames on the site and didn't see any boxed area, guess all were chevy's. Was going to pick up late 70's Cheyenne for the conversion today but was worried I may have an altered/changed frame. Again, I appreciate the reply and apologize for the multiple posts. Cheers, Tom.

Re: 62 engine mount question
All the '60-'62 trucks whether Chevy or GMC had the mostly boxed frames. At least all the ones I've seem were.

Re: 62 engine mount question
sounds good. I just bought my donor vehicle, Cheyenne with 350/400, power steering and disc brakes hopefully the swap will be painless.
