Just bought a 64 long box

Hi, I bought a '64 long box last week that my 14 year old son and I are going to restore. I have a few questions. First, the fresh air and heater blower controls. Our pickup has the fresh air cable, although it needs to be replaced. There is a second hole in the dash panel. Is that where the blower control cable goes? Do you pull the cable for high, med and low?
Second, to fix sagging doors can you replace the hinge pins and the whole hinge?
Third, there are several vendors that sell parts listed on the forum. Do you have any favorites for parts for a pickup like mine?
And last (this post) after reading stuff on this forum I think there is an inner and outer rocker. The (top) outer is rusted through where it meets the floor. Should I assume the inner needs replacing if the outer does?

Congratulations on the purchase and enbarking on a restoration project with your son. Welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS.

With regards to your heater/defroster set-up, it sounds like you have a Thrift-Air set-up, which consists of a single pull knob on the dash bezel with a two-speed fan blower switch. If that is the case, there is only only means of control at the dash. By pulling the knob out, you control the volume of air...by turning the switch from high to low you control the speed. In order to get defrost, you must flip the knob on the plenum box under the dash to divert air to the two dash-mounted diffusers.

There are also many members that sell good, used parts for these trucks.

Door hinge rebuild kits are available, as well as, new and used door hinges are available.

In order to deterimine the condition of the inner and outer rocker panels, take a scratch awl, ice pick or some other sharp object and poke around the inner and outer rocker panel to determine where the material is compromised with rust. To access the inner rocker panel, before removing the outer rocker panel, you can see it from underneath the truck. If the outer rocker panel is removed, you can see it from both sides.

Congrats and do yourself and us a favor. Get a photobucket account or something of the sort and take tons of photos. You will refer to them a lot and its much easier rebuilding from photos than memory.

Thanks for the info received so far. I did make a website with pics. Just a few pics of the exterior. I'll be adding more soon. I'll take some of the dash controls and under dash tomorrow.

Looks like a hole someone drilled. That should not be there. Only one hole for the pull knob.

From the look of the photos you picked up a rather decent condition rig.

Yeah it looks like somebody punched a hole in the dash for that hole. Probably for a toggle switch.
