Stepside Bed Problems

I have a 1981 shortbed that I'm customizing. I'm trying to put an 1990 stepside bed on it. Does any one have any helpful information about doing this without it breaking my pockets & have me sleeping on the floor.

The only advise I can give you is not to do it. My personal opinion, it doesn't match, body lines are all off, and it looks like an afterthought.

BUT

It is your truck, and if everyone built a truck to my liking (or everyone elses liking), the world would be a pretty boring place.

Bed looks good on truck, the problem I'm having is the frame on a 1990 is wider then the 1981. I made a call to a West Coast shop & they gave me some good ways to make it work. Pic's coming after I get it set up. I've seen some trucks in person at car shows, they look great with the same set-up I'm doing.

I agree with Jeff, the lines dont like up and look better on a 67-72 truck. But also agree it is your truck. You should just be able to redrill the holes in the floor of the bed where your mounts are. If it isnt where the cross supports are then you could put spacers between the bed floor and the frame to keep the bed floor from collapsing when you tighten it down.
