Angry flowmaster super 44

i just put these flowmaster supper 44's on my suburban. it has a crate 350 and stock manifolds we ran 2.5 inch pipe and a crossover, then the pipes run out the side. this thing sounds like CRAP , on the hwy it has a flapping sound like i'm running on a flat tire. they were supposed to be the same as the 40's only with less interior noise. i'm very dissapointed , and it sounds embarrassing like the freakin stock muffler fell off or has a big hole in it! any body else running thes 44's have the same problem? i'm going to have to start from scratch. soory for rambling but i needed to vent after taking a $300 dollar step backwards today. -Nick-

I always run the 50 series Flowmasters,... but I like them more quiet than the 40's.

Re: flowmaster super 44

Have you contacted Flowmaster about them? I would start there, make them stand behind their product! You spent the money, they should make sure you are happy.

Re: flowmaster super 44

My friend had the Super 44's on his 05 f-150 and it sounds NOTHING like they advertise it on tv. He just re-did his whole setup last weekend and needless to say the flowmasters aren't part of it.

Re: flowmaster super 44

Awww, no love for the 44.

If you wanted a loud muffler, you struck out. This thing is quiet and gives a slight rumble under acceleration, but not the throaty growl that Flowmaster is known for.

For the record, I like mine, but I have different goals than most people...

Re: flowmaster super 44

The super 44's are suppose to be the loudest Flowmaster you can buy, interior noise and all.

I run the Super 40's on my Charger and they sound pretty bad ass, I wouldn't swap them for anything.

If you're getting a flapping sound, maybe it's the way your pipes exit and your sucking cold air back into the pipe. Or, like the other guys said, you don't have enough exhaust pressure to really let these mufflers work right.

I plan on putting Flowmaster 50's on mine, I never really liked the sound of the 40's. To me it sounds too "pingy"

Re: flowmaster super 44

Make sure there are no leaks in the exhaust. Like the manifold collector is loose and sucking air.

Do you still have the cat convertors? Flows never sound quite right behind convertors.

Is the motor running strong? Any difference before and after? Run worse now?

Final question, and may seem silly, but are the mufflers installed in the correct flow direction?

Re: flowmaster super 44

No lp i don't mind just let this serve as a cautionary tale. i had a 305 with stock manifolds 2.5 inch pipes and 40 series 2 chambers and it sounded real good then i put headers on and it sounded even better. well this is a new crate 350 with less than 10,000 miles on it and these sound like crap i went back to the muffler shop today and put turndowns on it. it sounds a little better but still kinda hollow no growl and the truck still runs great. i think i'm gonna have the whole thing redone with some magnaflows and pipes all the way out the back.

Re: flowmaster super 44

I have the flowmaster Super 44s on my truck with three inch pipe. My motor is a 355 with 10.5:1 compression with a lopey cam. The motor sounds like a big block. It sounds awesome when you romp on it. They mufflers are located just past the cab and then the pipes dump out the side. I have gotten compliments by guys with prostreet cars on race fuel. I have to say though, you need the engine to match the mufflers. On a stock motor, I do not think they would sound half as good.

Re: flowmaster super 44

If you want growl dump them out the side right before the rear tires. This is an amazing change over dumps or the rear exit.

thats how they were at first and it was worse now they dump in front of the axle and its a little better but not much, my 2 chamber 40 series were much nicer sounding.these things have almost turned me off of flowmasters al together.

Re: flowmaster super 44

First bad thing I've ever heard about the 44's. Sound is purely subjective though, so the same sound that makes one guy drool might make someone else puke. I bought one of the first pairs of 44's available 2yrs ago and my truck sounds insane, get compliments constantly.....but I've got 10.5:1 compression and the cam to match. I think part of your problem is the stock manifolds......it's hard to make a stock sbc with manifolds sound good IMO. Longtube headers make a world of difference.

i do need some headers but i ran 40 series 2 chambers on a wore out 305 with stock manifolds, stock intake and a quadrajet, with smog and everything still hooked up and it sounded great. this is a new 350 so it should sound better than this even if it is all stock. I have never run an h-pipe before and i'm wondering if thats part of the problem? anyhow i contacted flowmaster and they said they would get back to me soon, so we'll see how that goes. but i already ordered a set of magnaflows yesterday. If that don't fix it then its getting stock mufflers and cats put back on it!
