electrical question

I am trying to figure out the wiring on this truck. I am running a 1wire alt. and HEI. I have already gotten rid of the wires for the points type dist. It looks like someone had put in wires for a newer dist with the flat connector. that is gone now also. Now I'm looking for the temp gauge wire. My wiring diagman shows a green wire, but I have more than one. I'm thinking it's the smaller green one. So my qustion is, What are the other 2 green wires for? one is a lighter color, and they are stuck side by side like speaker wire. Now get this, the truck has been changed over to an automatic, and the lighter colored wire was ran back into the cab and hooked to the neutral safety switch! I disconnected the wire and the truck will still cracks, and the switch seems to still work.

Well, I forgot to mention the tranny was changed from a 4-speed to an automatic. I guess that make sense then. Thanks for the answer. It will probably be a few days before I get to the lights.
