Re: 5 speed to auto swap
What type of auto? 350th or 700R4?
I can't remember which engine has the same bolt pattern as a small block. I think the 2.8 is a car bolt pattern. Are you keeping the fuel injection? |

I'd like to go with the 700r4. The 2.8 has the small bellhousing bolt pattern.

Re: 5 speed to auto swap
find one from a 93 down camaro, firebird with the 3.1 or 3.4. Same as a 2.8 will bolt right up. You should be able to use the flywheel also. But I am not sure about the balancing of those motors. 93 is before if went electronic so it should be a relatively easy swap.
So why are you wanting to swap, ease of driving??

Re: 5 speed to auto swap
Know there shouldn't be any computer changes. If at all possible, try and stay with the same year, so you can hook up your speedometer, because it's electronic. should be able to unplug yours and plug into the auto trans sensor. Only other thing is getting the linkage and brakets for the detent cable. A might have to try and find those parts at a pick and pull yard. Heck you might be able to go just get one out a 93 2.8 form the junkyard. that way it will be a pretty easy swap. getting all the brackets for the same vehicle.
