Shipping a Cab
Does anyone have any useful insught on this. I am going to be looking for a rust free 72 cab soon and have seen a couple for sale in the Arizona area. Best and cheapest way to ship one of these??? Thanks in advance for your help.

Put it on a pallet with a wood crate around it and ship it through a freight co. Hard part is getting the seller to take it to the freight Co.

I just had a Suburban shipped from New Mexico to Georgia and I used a guy out of Texas by the name of Bruce Williams. A few other board members have used him and he took care of them. I was very happy, great price, he was here when he said and a great guy to deal with. As a matter of fact, when he dropped off my burb he had a 57 cab on his truck that he had picked up out west and was taking to Miami for a guy. Another good thing is that Bruce is a car guy, like us and he knows how valuable these old piles of metal are to us, unlike an average transport company.

Try U-ship. We use it. People bid on the shipping and it starts high and they bid lower until you get no more bids. We like it

If you can get them to crate it up I can take care of it for you as long as there is a fork lift on both ends. Give me the rough measurements and weight and I can get you a close price to what it will cost. I ship LTL everyday for folks.

Hey 1972Supercheyenne, there is an auto restoration shop about a mile from me that has a cab sitting on a frame outside their shop. I've been watching it and its been there for at least six months. I've never stopped to ask about it, but it looks real solid. PM me if you want and I'll give you their name. Not sure if it is for sale, but worth a try??

If you can't find someone like the Bruce Williams that Number 98 had haul his pick it up I'd look into what Jkade suggested.
It will take a strong pallet and should be well crated to protect it. It costs a bit more but helps reduce the chances of damage and theft of small pieces. Osb and 2x4's are cheap at Home Depot right now. Usually if a guy knows where to look a solid pallet that will hold the cab isn't that hard to come up with that you don't have to build your self. Also with some freight companies Loading dock to loading dock shipping saves a lot over pickup and delivery. |

LTL carrier is going to be the cheapest, if you can get the seller to crate it and lift it into a semi trailer or take it to the dock.
