454/400 208 or 205 t-case?

Right now I'm running a 454 with 465 tranny-205 case with centerforce dual clutch. I have started having some fun playing with a pulling group here and have made some success on my first three pulls, a 3rd,2ed and a 1st.
Question is I have a 400 automatic with a 208 slip spline out of a CUCV. I would like to put that in but don't know if I shoud use the 208 case or make the swap to the 205. I have 3 205s, 2-4 speed and 1-350 auto, The 208 setup is ready to go, just add a quality shift kit and install the set-up. (drive shaft work and the like) If I swap to the 205 T-case I need the proper 205/ 400 spline set-up, I'll need to locate all that stuf. Is it worth the trouble of swapping out to the 205, I think so, or shoud I go with the ready to go 208. How do you think the 208 will hold? I don,t like the slip spline on the 208 and hear that I COULD swap in a yoke, dodge or Ford, just don't know.
This is a short bed so drive angle to the rear would be a question.
14bolt rear D60 front, 456 gears.
Any thoughts?

thanks, Mudmizer

Just remember the T400 from the CUCV was setup for a 6.2 diesel engine.

yup, it did have the 6.2 diesel. By that do you mean that it shoud be able to take the torque?

i think that also means the shift points will be undesirable for your 454

The 208 will explode depending on your Hp level, tire and type of track

I would never trust a 208 in a pull truck

But they are lightweight so they would be easy to change when they do break

Re: 454/400 208 or 205 t-case?

I would think the shift points would be determined by the vaccume modulator reading the vaccume off the engine rpm. It should shift just fine. Right now the set-up is in my son's 69 with a Inline 6cyl and shifts alright. I was planning on pulling the 400/208 from his I-6 and replacing it with a 350/205 we just picked up just for this project swap. Why do you think it may not shift right? The 400 won't know what truck it's in as long as the vaccume controls it. I could be wrong.

Re: 454/400 208 or 205 t-case?

I use my truck for Tug-A-Truck and just swaped from a 350/208 to a 400/203 and would love to find a 208 for the 400 due to the lower gear ratio the 203 completely changed the way I have to pull
