Bedside tool box

Can someone give me the length of one of the door for the tool box mounted in the bedside. I have always thought they looked cool and was thinking of putting one in the side of my shortbed if there's enough room. Might have to cut one down to fit though?

Re: Bedside tool box

Yeah, I figure if I'm going to cut one to fit I will find a door that's not so nice to hack up. Hate to hack up a really nice one. Just thought it would be kinda cool on a SWB.

Re: Bedside tool box

Won`t fit. That`s why GM never offered it.Figure the wheel base is 127" vs 115".I don`t see this leaving enough room in a 12" smaller space.

Anybody seen the bedside tool box put in behind the rear wheel? Just thinkin' it would make for a lot of nice storage under all four corners of the bed.

Re: Bedside tool box

you guys will string me up for this comment BUT back in the mid 60s f$%d did have a tool box on shortbed fleetside models. i had one and was going to modify it to fit my 69 shortbed - it is too deep to clear the framerail. i just never could bring myself to cut a hole in my bedside.

Jerry, you are correct. Ford made them in 2 sizes for the long or shortbed. My 66 ranger shortbed still has one in it. However, the shortbox ones are hard to find also. If anyone needs pics of the set-up, let me know. Eric

Re: Bedside tool box

How well does the Ford box fit the curve of the Chevy bed side? I really like that it's is fully self contained and could be easily added.

Any pics of the Ford box on the GM bed side?
