question about van rallies
I would like to run rally wheels and have been thinking about the van wheels for the front. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/pts/1151377952.html
I searched the site and found in a thread that they should have 3" backspacing. I'm not good with wheels and backspacing so I guess what I was wondering is will they sit far in the fender or will they still be near the edge Also if the wheel is 6.5" wide with 3" backspacing does that mean I can measure 3.5" from face of rotor and that is where the edge of the rim should be? Thanks for the help |

Re: question about van rallies
The outer edge of the wheel would be 3.5", or 4" inches from the mounting pad of the rotor depending on how backspacing was measured. Because a 6.5" rally actually measures 7.5" from edge to edge. So your 8" rally should measure 9" wide.
Just so you know they did make a 7" rally, therefore it actually measures 8". And the extra 1/2" is on the outside. They are kinda hard to find, but I think that would make for the best combo. I think they were on some of the earlier trucks and I think I have seen them on a few vans. Supposedly all rally wheels are stamped on the inside with a size.

Re: question about van rallies
Sounds about right for a 6.5" wide wheel. Makes a good skinny wheel for the front if you are into that look.

Re: question about van rallies
Here's some 6.5" van ralleys on the front to give you an idea where they 'sit' vs. the outer fender-lip. The rears are 8" truck ralleys.

Re: question about van rallies
"Backspace" is the distance from the edge of the rim to the flat area where the wheel mounts to the rotor.....from the back side
"Off-set" is how far that same flange is away from the exact center of the wheel. So a 6" wheel and an 8" wheel with the same backspace would have different off-set. Her is a quick little diagram to show it better

Re: question about van rallies
Thanks everyone Scoti that picture is just what I was looking for. I think I will go for them 30 bucks is cheap, and right now my rear wheels look narrower than the front something I want to change with the next set.

Re: question about van rallies
If you don't mind my asking, how much of a drop is that in the front? And what size tires?

Re: question about van rallies
Front is 3" Bell tech spindles w/1-coil cut from the stock V8 springs (lower a-arm requires trimming w/a 15" wheel) & 215-70-15's. The rear is a flip kit on a HD 8-leaf spring pack for a true 6" plus Bell Tech 2" shackles & 255-70-15's.
