72 truck fuel filler neck.

Is the lip on the end of the fuel filler neck replaceable? The piece where the gas cap fits on. Its on a truck with the tank behind the seat. Mine looks like someone has pried the cap off and it spills gas all over when making a corner. It looks like it should be removeable. Does anybody know? I dont want to have to replace the whole tank.

Re: 72 truck fuel filler neck.

are you sure that you have the right gas cap on it? Or is the lip severly damaged?

My uncle a long time ago pried the locking gas cap off of the filler because he thought the truck was low on fuel (gas gauge was off) and bought a new gas cap....everytime I would make a right hand turn when the tank was full, fuel would pour out and run down the side of the truck. I went out and found the original fitting non locking gas cap and have not had any problems since. The lip on mine is still has a little damage, however I was able to bend it back.

Re: 72 truck fuel filler neck.

Its pretty bent up and the hole is out of round from someone trying to fix it. The neck is the same as my 71 and it leaks 3 times worse when turning with the same gas cap. A non locking original wont even fit in the hole it is so out of round. The locking one fits but is very loose, and they both fit the 71 fine. And yes ive checked and the neck on my 72 IS the same as the 71. My 72 doesnt have the larger one like ive heard about. They both have the vent on the tube, evv its called or something like that. Here is a couple pics of the bent one.
