My truck has a bare steel floor at the moment and I'm looking to install new carpet. Can someone tell me what I need to do as far as glue or an underlayment pad or any tips that might produce a better finished fit?

While I'm on the subject, does anyone have the olive green interior with black carpet? I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Can anyone just tell me what they used under their carpet? Would it be the same pad that you'd use under a rubber mat or does the carpet not need an underlayment?

I believe the ACC brand replacement carpets can be had with or without padding panels. The entire carpet is not covered with them pre-mounted, just panels. The carpets install with no glue. Others have many different ways of upgrading with added jute or sound deadner. My truck originally came with a rubber mat with a polypropelyne and tar paper like material below it.

You could always go with any of the major brand stick on sound deadener like dynomat or any of the others. Most carpet if its quality comes with a backer so its not necessary but makes for alot quieter ride.

Wasn't there a thread a while ago that discussed sound deadeners? I think in that thread someone talked about using a roofing type paper or something like it from Lowe's. It's black sticky tar stuff on one side and thin aluminum stuff on the other side. Has anyone used it and what was the results?

I don't know, that sounds a little funky with the sticky tar though. I guess I really shouldn't worry too much about sound since I put the glasspacks on it, it's probably not going to be a quiet ride anyway.

Mate you can just add the Jute mat under the Carpet, that will give you a soft cusion feel to your floor and will deaden a resonable amount of noise. You can buy precut ones from Classic Parts http://www.classicparts.com/Floor-Fi...oducts/272/2/0

Carpet is pretty nice. It has the hemmed edges, the heel pad and the jute backing pad covers the floorboard area and it's about 1/2" thick.
