Love Posi
Hi guys,
Does anyone know what kind of unit this is? I used to have it my Chevelle wagon. I put it in the 10 bolt rear with 3.08 gears but wasn't original to the car. A freebie that worked! I want to donate it to my friend's '67 C-10 project now that wagon is gone, but don't want to give him a piece of junk. You know, keep the positive Karma flowing. If it needs to be, can it be rebuilt, are parts still available? Would it be better to just get an aftermarket posi? Thanks

Re: Love Posi
If that posi was in a chevelle than it won't fit in a truck. Chevelles had 4 types of diffs
64-72 had 8.2 10 bolts in 350 2bbl and smaller engines 64-72 had 8.875 12 bolts in 350 4bbl and bigger engines 73-77 all had 8.5 10 bolts 78-87 had 7.5 10 bolts Trucks use 12 bolts from around 63 up until 81. In 82 trucks switched to the 8.5 10 bolt (same internals as the 73-77 chevelle). Also the car and truck 12 bolts are not the same. |

Re: Love Posi
I believe that the width of the carrier is different and the pinion has a smaller diameter on the truck 12 bolt. When shopping for a posi remember that around 73 gm trucks switched to the gov-loc type(the explosive one) of limited slip. 72 and older used the eaton clutch style(the good one) limited slip.

Re: Love Posi
that is normal, but when was the last time you changed the fluid? my truck did the same thing, but once i changed the fluid, most of the popping and noise went away.

Re: Love Posi
Mine pops, I keep thinking something is broken and here goes another million dollars to fix it..... the rear didn't pop when it was in my 72 but after switching it to the 68 with a new axel and 20 inch rims and tires it just doesn't seem right...... but everyone say's it's normal, so I guess it's normal.

Re: Love Posi
Its not normal!! It shouldnt pop!!! What you need to do is change the fluid unless its been recently changed and add a bottle of Posi fluid. It goes in with your gear oil and prevents the popping and makes it work correctly. I dont remember the exact name for it but its at every major parts store.

Re: Love Posi
It's a limited slip/positraction additive oil. It smells aweful..... and no it should not pop when you turn. most likely your oil (80w90)needs to be changed, always add the additive when changing the oil. If its popping the friction plates are not releasing as they should when you corner. I bought my last bottle from NAPA....

The rear I had the posi in was an 8.2, 10 bolt. I yhink it's a 2 serries carrier. Does anyone have any other info about this old thing?

1870's? Used to use that stuff in Saragossa. Or was it Sarasota? It came in a bottle... Maybe it was a tall bottle. Or was it a can?
