Battery won't hold charge
I just got my 74 K10's 350 running due to a blown fuse for the distributor wire and now the battery won't hold a charge. If i put it on the charger it will start right up and I run it for a couple minutes. Next day when I came back out the battery was totally dead. Could this be due to a fuse that the alternator runs off of being bad also.
Need some help on this one! |

Re: Battery won't hold charge
it could be alot of things.when i have electrical ssue's i take it down somewhere where they can hook it up to an analyzer machine that tells what component is bad.iv'e bought batteries before when it's the alternator or something else thats bad.it can save time and money.i know in longview there's a couple of automotive shops that specialize in electrical.so spokane is much larger there should be somewhere close.and it's free.

Re: Battery won't hold charge
How old is the battery? That could very well be the problem. If you think you have a draw, disconnect one batt cable and place a test light or DVOM in series between the battery and the disconnected cable. With everything turned off, you should not have any current flowing.

Re: Battery won't hold charge
Thanks for the help guys. I know the battery is still good because its from my other truck and worked great when i took it out. I will try and test the wires and see if that the problem but pretty much every fuse in the fusebox is blown so Ill replace those first and see.

Re: Battery won't hold charge
the reality of it though. is with any sort of major change in a electrical system it can cause a batter to go bad..
do a free test on the battery at autozone pep boys etc just to make sure.. then i would sand any ground you can find in the engine bay.. and check for burnt wires, especially on the constant hots.... good luck
