Valve Cover Help
I got some new valve covers for Christmas and I have 3 holes in the covers. I have the PCV, and breather to go on the valve covers but I still have the one hole left. What needs to go there? Is there an oil cap that goes there? On the valve covers I have now I have the plain black ones that came on the ZZ4. I'm thinking a oil filler cap but want to make sure. They came with the 2 grommets made for the breather and PCV but nothing on the 3rd hole. Here's what they look like

Brandon,
your valve covers are what I wish was made for non center bolt heads, three holes. I drilled another hole in one of my Billet Specialities valve covers. I wanted three holes and nobody makes them for regular heads. Anyway, on mine, I have the two hole cover on the passenger side, with the one hole on the drivers side. The two hole has a breather in the rear hole, and a oil fill cap in the front one. Then the drivers cover (one hole) has the PCV in it. I'm guessing it came with all three grommets, right? Just get a push in oil fill cap, which has the grommet built in. Don't put the baffle in the hole, but the other two needs baffles. Also, nice valve covers. I wish they would make some like these to fit my heads. I would have already had them by now if they did.

Oops, sorry, need to read better. I seen you said it had two grommets. Just buy a push in oil fill cap. Billet Specialities makes some nice ones.

Thanks Mike. Actually they only came with 2 grommets. The larger hole didn't come with one. I'm going order these hopefully soon. I don't like the looms I have now to fit on the new covers. Also I'll have to get a oil filler cap. Thanks for the info.

I have found them with 3 and 4 holes both in chrome steel, even have a set of the 4 holes I just took off. What I did was buy Billet Specialities plain polished covers and drilled my other hole with a 1.25" hole saw. I had to put some tape behind the grommet to tighten it up a little because the hole needs to be 1.22" really. Works real good though and looks factory. I would have went with a design on them if it hadn't been for needing to drill this hole. Mike |

A FELLOW RODILANDAH!! NO F'IN WAY! I have been thinking about posting a messsage asking if there was even anyone from freakin new england out there. No offense to you folks down south but us yankees got to stick together.
Ken, I don't think I am interested but if the folks at the parts shop screw up one more order...Thanks for the reply anyway. You wouldn't by any strange chance have a 3/4 or 1 ton rear that you would want to swap for a 1/2 ton? just though I'd ask. Norris |

Brandon, what are the part numbers for the whole kit you need for your valve covers? Is the ones in the photo above the ones you are thinking about getting? From what I read, it looks like the price is for one side. Is this right?
Let me know.

Mike here's the numbers:
Center Bolt Aluminum Brackets Part # 50-82494 - Suggested Retail $22.15 Vertical Wire Loom Kit (Fits 7-8mm dia. Wire) Part # 50-756-__ - Suggested Retail $34.95 (in blank spot put color code) The brackets (aluminum) are a package by itself then you buy the color looms. One package of each will do a complete engine.

Hey Mike how hard was it to drill a hole in those valve covers you bought (the plain cast aluminum ones from billet specialties)?
I'm up in the air right now about which to buy. I really really like the chevy script ones, but the plains are so much cheaper.

Dayum Brandon. That is some high priced looms. But they do look fantastic. What color was you after?
Eddie, I used a 1-1/4" hole saw. It has to be a good one, to cut the metal. You can't use the cheapos. It don't have to be one specifically for metal though. It wasn't hard at all, pretty easy really. I used my drill press so not to wobble out the hole. Only thing is the 1.25" hole saw is well, .03" too big. The hole actually needs to be 1.22". What I did was use some electrical tape, cut into 3/8" or so wide strips, and wrap it aound the outside of the grommet, where it goes against the cover. About three wraps of this tightened it up just perfect. I used the Billet Specialities breather, PCV, and oil fill cap. Mine works real well. |

M/T valve covers have a space to put a breather and a oil fill cap on both sides if you want. You have to knock out the hole, but it actually has a place made for it.

Dave- LMAO!!! I sent the link to my mom of the Salle-Chevrolet's site. They're $100.00!!!! Yeah they went down on price from when we first pricing them. They're part number 141-130 here's the link http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Prof...ve_covers.html I'm trying to get my wife to spend an early anniversary present on the looms for me
Mike- Yeah they are expensive but I paid $40 on the looms I have now and not even come close the the looks of these new ones. If I can sweet talk the wife I'll try to get them ordered this week and have them on next week. I don't want to install the new valve covers without the new looms since the old ones may scratch them up. One the color I was thinking black but not sure yet. May take a poll on that this week
