Score!!

so today my son was out mowing...he comes in and says "dad the neighbor wants to talk to you"

I'm like "what did you do?"

he said "nothing"

neighbor says "I have a 350 engine just sitting in my garage, you or someone you know want it?"

I said "yes, I will take it!"

he said they had it in a 78 pontiac car, I figured it was a BOP, said I would take it anyway. he asked me if I wanted to see it I said sure....
go look and it is a complete (oil pan to carb, flywheel to fan) CHEVY 350!!
he said he bought a short block, put it in the car, and put somewhere between 40-50K on it and it popped a freeze plug out so they pulled it out and put a 400 in it...
I called Scott to share my good news, ran to Harbor Freight and got an engine stand, Scott came over and we put it on the stand in the neighbor's garage and pushed it down his drive, across the sidewalk and up my drive into my garage...
here are some pics

he said even the carb was new when they put the short block in.
not sure how long it was stored in their garage....but I looked in the dist hole and the valley is very clean.
I'm gonna pull the valve covers and the oil pan to see what it all looks like..
as you can see it has the alternator, a/c compressor, and even the p/s pump
It made my day!!
I just had to share

Re: Score!!

Great score. The 3970010 block came in both 2 and 4 bolt configurations. I'm running the same cast # block. Good luck with it.

Re: Score!!

yeah I looked it up on mortec.com already.
the same casting was used on 1969 camaro 4 bolt 302's, 1969 2 bolt 327's, and 1969-1980 2 or 4 bolt 350's
but my date code is E 9 3 (May 09, 19*3) so I assume it is a '73 block..

Re: Score!!

I have a 4 bolt block with the same casting number and came up with 69-79 350 with 185-370 base horse power. The block was put in cars, trucks and vettes. My dad had it in his garage since I was a kid. When he gave it to me it had 30 years of dust on it. I'm planning on stroking mine too. There are rotating assembly kits that start at around 600 for cast crank, rods and hypereutectic pistons. I don't even have wheels on my truck yet and the 2 bolt 350 in it runs already so the stroker is on the back burner..... for now.

It is my understanding you can use the 350 rods and just get a new crank and pistons...as Scott refers to below

From what I read on mortec.com the front right stamped pad is the build date and the vehicle VIN
build date code is F0514CKL....dunno about the CKL but F=Flint Michigan, 05=May, 14=14th day of the month, the code doesn't have a year
the VIN that is stamped is 13J279231, I haven't tried to look it up yet

Ever since you put up the mini video of you playing with your steak
you have come across some good scores, first the long bed and now the 350.

Congrats Joe.....

the worst part was a big crack in the sidewalk with grass growing in it...had to lift and push

Re: Score!!

Nice price!
CKL = 1973 350 with TH automatic from an F, A, or B-body Chevy (Camaro, Monte Carlo/Chevelle, Impala/Caprice.
At least that's what it says on the nastyz28 site.
(or a 1975 262 with can't even be given away)

Re: Score!!

I'm sorry sheriff, I know I work for you and all, but it is illegal to drive an unlicensed engine down the street!

Judge?

Guilty!

Sheriff Dick, you are hereby ordered to pay the court the fine of one 350 Chevy engine. See the clerk.....uhhhhh....no clerk, just pay the fine to Deputy Bob(aka olCurt).

Great find Joe!!
