Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

im running a saginaw 4 spd right now. i really want to put a t56 in there. t5's seem to be alot cheaper and I might put one in until I get the chance to do what I really want. 4 speeds is definetly not enough!

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

I'm running a M21 muncie in mine. To put a t56 in our trucks, it requires that you either run bucket seats or purchase a kit to relocate the shifter position to the forward access panel on the main case. This requires tearing the trans down and cutting the main rail down to size. When the funds allow, I'm going tko600. Donations accepted.

At some point I plan to go to a modern 6.0 or 6.2 with a 6 speed. But that is looking to be quite a while down the road.

Nothing better then 3 pedals. I love the TKO, 7k rpm shifts are nice. I have some interior pictures. I will get them posted tomorrow.

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

I'm a little old school, i m in the middle of a 833 swap---3 speed with overdrive. It has near the same ratio's as a 700r4 (which may or may not be ideal to some people.) These are found in early 80's trucks.

If i had the $$$$, def a 5 or 6 speed with closer ratios would be in my truck.

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

I've got a T-10 in my 78... it's not too bad. I've also got a Doug Nash 4+3 that I would like to swap in but it would require redoing a lot of work that I already have done, and it's just not going to happen.

wow, I had no idea that so many of our users rolled with the manual. Is it pretty difficult to install these trans?

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

what kind of shifter is everyone using that switches over to a standard? i mean to clear the factory bench seat?

i heard a while back that a floor shifter from a 55-57 chevy would work perfect, but i never found out for sure

Not hard, just get a hanger and linkage from a donor vehicle at the wrecking yard. After that it is pretty much a bolt in.

Hurst makes shifters specically for putting a (T-10, muncie, saginaw, what have you) into a c-10. Clears the bench seat just fine, but don't leave the ash tray open when jamming gears... it makes jamming third quite uncomfortable.

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

tko is a bit more expensive off the bat but i think if i werent buying one piece at a time for the t56 i would have went that route. i just really wanted the 1:0.50 6th gear

another thought is 6 speed automatics are now available.

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

Heres some interior shots. This is the stock TKO 600 shifter location. It's a hurst stick. I will eventually upgrade to the pro 5.0 shifter.
I had originally though about a 6 spd, but figured the extra OD wasn't worth the extra weight since I don't normally cruise above 60mph that much. I also don't drive it that much.

M21 muncie. Clears the bench just fine, about 1" between the stick and seat in 2nd/4th gear.

Awesome looking interior wild83c10! You've got me jealous for sure. How big of a shot are you running?

Here's my interior for shifter location purposes, trans is in neutral in this pic:

Re: whats everyone running for manual trans? 5spds 6spds?

Thanks,
I have it setup for a 100 shot right now. I haven't hit it yet, since I still need a couple more items. I will eventually go up to a 200 shot.
