Idiot Lights to Gauges - Have a few questions
All,
I am beginning the process of converting my truck to gauges from idiot lights. I have pieced together a great gauge set from a few used ones and a new bezel, all stock. I have the wiring diagrams and will be beginning to change the pin outs(thanks gmcpaul), and run the extra wires for the ammeter gauge. My questions lie with the temp and oil pressure gauges. I have a new stainless oil line and am assuming it just runs from the back of the oil gauge(duh) to the hole where the current oil light sensor is back by the dizzy - is that as simple as it is? Second, I know I need a new sender for my temp gauge but read somewhere in here that there are issues with the ohm readings being off from the sender and the old gauge creating incorrect readings. Does anyone know of a temp sender unit that fits the small block chevy(have a 307-for now) and is the correct ohm rating for these old gauges? Classic Industries has a few that supposedly work but I'm just unsure. Is there anything else I am missing? Thanks for all/any info guys! |

Re: Idiot Lights to Gauges - Have a few questions
Most auto parts stores have the temp sender. Borg warner part number is wt203. This has 1/2" pipe threads and will work as long as you have older heads. If you have later model heads the temp sender hole will be 3/8" pipe threads and the sender will need to be turned down and re-threaded. I can do this, If needed.
